I was watching discovery channel and it went about airphotography in WOII.
The germans builded a wooden factory to mislead the bombing raids . It was a big complex and from high it looked very realistic.
But the RAF wasn't mislead guess what they did...
They dropped a wooden bomb on it

(probably with a mosquito i guess)

LOL !  Thats funny!  Did you ever see the color photo the Boeing Company Plant 2 during WW2?  It looks like a complete suburban area complete with trees, cars, etc, all built on a structure elevated above the plant.  I'll try to dig up a picture.

I've seen that picture Ripsnort in a book I have. Funny part is that the cars resemble the 80's design with their 'boxed' look.

Yep might have seen such pictures.
In discovery it also went about faking i believe the spitfire factory.
An english artist came with the idea to paint the roofs off the factory . Like if the was a river flooding over the factory and like there was a urban area. The germans also where very good at it they made airfield look like they where totally devastated and out off action by painting craters over the runways etc.

Anyway i love the way the british can handle humourously in very serious times

Here's a pic of part of the rooftop at Plant 2 during WW2 (Boeing), note the scale:

Burlap houses and chicken-wire lawns camouflaged the rooftops so that, from the air, the bomber  manufacturing center looked like a quiet suburb.

RIP, I drive by that place every day. Its changed hands several times, various aero-space industries.....Sadly, most of those have been forced to make other stuff...
I guess thats a GOOD thing  though, isnt it
The angled glass roofs to catch any light through the camo are STILL there though=)
Its about 3miles from where the 1st PBY lifted=)

Doug, we talking about the same place?  Plant 2 has been Boeing since it was built.
