There will come a day where the vid cards will be so off the chain, that we'll not only have rain, duststorms, and snow  but lightening as well...or so I hope...

How long before AH4 comes out, anyway?

Well ... add rain into the mix, at this point, and you will see a slide show for sure. Do you see a reduction in framrates when bombs are dropped ? I do ... big time ... I can just imagine what rain would do.

You do have your 'sound acceleration' turned down to 75% right?

If not, run dxdiag > go to sound tab > and set slider to 75%.

Might help...

That day is here my friend, it is not the limitations of "today's" video cards it is the game eng/programming:p

I play many diff types of games with all sorts of weather effects, some very, very impressive. This at ungodly resolutions and awesome framerates.

And all online on dial-up with hundreds of other players.

Yeah ... guess that AH code/engine must really suck. ;)

Actually, rain shouldn't be that hard to pull off. In real life, you don't see the actual droplets in the air until it hits your windscreen... unless it's really pouring, and then it's a moot point because you wouldn't be flying then anyway.

You could make the rain effect by an animated graphic on the windshield... which we have now in the form of oil and blood... and you could make the reduced visibility by using a thick grey fog... which we now can do in AH2.

Apache/Havoc -> Comanche/Hokum did this exact effect really well, and those games are 3-4 years old.

I think the biggest problem is that people would whine and log off, for the same reason they do at nighttime.
