Just have to throw my $.02 in.  I'm not a huge online player or in either "camp."  I like AH.  I like WB.  I know there are strong feelings in both camps about the other, and we knew that this award would generate heat.

But I want to publically say that I have a lot of regard for Gian and the rest of the guys at Dogfighter.  There's a fraternity (dysfunctional family?   ) of sim news/feature/forums sites, and I have a lot of respect for them and like their content a lot.  I've emailed back and forth with both Gian and Dave Ethell from time to time about different things and have respect for them both as a competitor site to mine and as a fellow simmer.

We came up with differing results for the same basic competition....no big sign to me that one or the other has sold out.  That's why there's three flavors of ice cream in the box.

OK its Yeager time.

JS, I dig what both you and the editor of DF have said but I gots to tell ya this and I really dont see myself being out of the ordinary here:

There is a substantial and marked difference of both content and quality of product between 1.05 and 2.76....I am amazed that some people think that theres this really close competative edge between these two products.

There isnt.

Only difference is the historical community at iEN is more mature.  Thats it from everything my experience has shown me.

and Yeager don't forget that the developement life cycle is dead for WB2.xx and has been for the most part since the original ICI members parted for bigger and better things. Some left for WW2Ol, some are here, others I have no idea about?

Giving a product a good review, award or not, for future modifications that have been due out for over a year and a half but still aren't out IMO is not the way to write a review or anything along those lines.

Whether HTC won this award or not or won dogfighters or not doesn't make much difference to me because the award is for them not for me to say "I'm playing a better product." I know which one is a better product, it'd be the one I'm playing. That's the way it goes for everyone out there.

It's really rediculous for either side of the fence to be harping at one another about who's game is better. HTC staff worked on and built WarBirds. So to say the current WarBirds is worse than Aces High is redundant. Same for someone playing WBs to say that AH is some how inferior. The same developement team that built WB is now building AH, I have yet to understand how it can in anyway be inferior than it's predecessor. Afterall, that's what WB2.xx is.. it's AH's predecessor. If you think otherwise, you are very mistaken. iEN's programming magic I have yet to see, so my faith in WB3 is nil right now. Screenshots look nice, but all WB3 is going to be is a facelift while leaving the same underlying code that HiTech & his band of mega-dweebs( ;-) ) wrote several years ago. Dogfighter's award for WB should be directed to Hitech and his current band of goonies at HTC, which incidently worked on WB, and the other staff members HT worked with before the split. Afterall, it was they who wrote the code that the WBers are playing on.

AH and WB are the same, but they are different and making an attempt to convince the next person which one is better is just as futile as trying to wipe your bellybutton with a pine cone. It's annoying, hurts like all hell and you'll still have klingons circling uranus.

Anyways, that's just my opinion and you don't have to agree with it.

Spoons....ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you sleep at night knowing that Battle of Britain was picked as the runner-up to flight sim of the year. Oh geez, I almost fell out of my chair after reading that one. Tell me, exactly how much is Rowan paying you? That game was the absolute worst PIECE OF SHAT I have ever played. B17 was clearly better than it and even that was a let down.

BTW, if you were wondering about whether or not to get Battle of Britain, in my professional opinion it's the worst WW2 sim I've ever played...all I can recommend it for is the nice footage they have from gun cams. Otherwise it's total crap. The graphics are so dated and ugly and unpolished that I couldn't believe it.

Frosty out.

EDIT: Oh and do not get me started on the Best Hardware of 2000, oh geez, looks like someone might have been paid...having benched several Geforce 2's against a V5...bah, nevermind.

EDIT #2: I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but WTFG HTC, you guys definitely deserved that award.

(Spoons comes downstairs in his 3dfx bathrobe, sits in his promotional Rowan's Battle of Britain chair, uses his 3dfx mousepad, and reads this thread, all the while looking at the pile of crisp $100s that Rowan has provided, which I'm using to light my 3dfx promotional cigars)

NOTE TO AUDIENCE:  That's sarcasm.  No $100s were hurt in the making of this post.

Frosty, tell me my writing sucks, tell me my personality sucks, tell me I wouldn't know a good flight sim from a dead Emu, but don't ever tell me I'm paid off.  Otherwise, thanks for your insightful comments....duly noted.

Spoons, the paid part was sarcasm on my part, but it seems that it got mixed in with my anger.   Hope it wasn't _that_ bad.
