Well, not as successful as a mission, but still just mind-blowingly cool, I had a B26 sortie once I think is near that.
I'm heading solo to a nearby enemy field, gonna pepper it in preparation for takedown. This is AH 1.04p5. Well, I'm about, oh, 5-7 thousand feet, I get in my bombsite and what do I see?
I heavy buff struggling towards me to take off! I figure, there's no way I can get it, stop it from peppering my base, I have no fighter escort. So I ignore it. I aim and drop my load, then have a wicked inspiration.
I close the bomb doors, roll on my back, and haul stick in an inverted loop. This is a B26, mind you. A B26. I'm going so fast, and pull so many Gs that I almost black out, I tear parts of my wing off (made it hard to aim, but I had a rudder) and am screaming in on this B-17s bellybutton at about 350MPH, with no way in heck of slowing down. I got one chance.
I take a lopsided aim on the port wing, and let rip. I rake my rudder a few times, and spread the shots. He must have seen me because I get sprayed to hell and back inside of about 10 seconds. Then I zoom past him still screaming at supernatural speeds (that was one hell of a dive I pulled) and limp back to base with one engine to land safely. If memory calls, I must have ripped his wing off, but this was nearly a year ago, so I don't remember. I wasn't bombed at base, so he must have been taken out.
That was just an effing amazing run. It was shortly after I started flying AH, also, so I was doubly surprised I had lived through it. Hella-fun, though.
