Tonight, I along with about a dozen others took off to intercept a very large high altitude B-17 raid. I took a 109G-10 with gondolas and a drop tank. Since the raid was reported to be up as high as 30k, I climbed to 33k. Once to altitude, I flew a full sector south, then turned west as the raid turned north, then west. I eventully caught up after flying a total of 4.5 sectors.
Here's the bug: I still had 8 gallons of fuel when I dumped the drop tank to attack. I flew the entire sortie up till then on the drop tank. Again, that's climbing to 33k (much of it using WEP), and flying 4.5 sectors. Fuel burn seemed more like 0.2, rather than 2.0. As it was, I flew another two sectors and landed with 60% of my internal fuel remaining.
My regards,
Widewing
