Nother Fuggin Bug
« on: July 14, 2004, 12:37:56 AM »
This one cost me a 262, game locked solid.
Looks as though AH2 is either try to reference unavailable memory area, or is attempting to access protected memory. This is starting to become UNACCEPTABLE.
Notice it says Application Error.
That memory ref is listed as under the PCI bus only. i.e. it is the actual bus and not any cards connected to it.
Which begs the question why is AH2 attempting to access a PCI slot that has NOTHING in it.

It just kills me that most of the members here refuse to admit the problems with this game. Do you mean to tell me that my 1 year old computer which runs every, and I mean EVERY application I have ever run on it flawlessly (many of them 3-D games) is not up to par because this solitary program causes constant crashes and total freeze ups. Furthermore, dozens, if not hundreds of other players, some with brand new gaming computers (2.2Ghz, 1 GH Ram, 256 Vid Card 12 cooling fans) have the same problems because thier systems are out of date as well?
Please tell me, what is the weather like on your planet? I must know.

UPDATE-
Uninstalled AH2 which was the original 2.0 with patches.
Dowloaded and installed 2.5. Played for around 3 hours everything O.K, at the moment. Wonder if theres a prob with the original 2.0 then adding the patches.
Only main difference is I am not using Mitsu's sound pack.
Will leave it a few days with default sounds then install Mitsu's stuff, see what happens.

Not for nothing, but Mitsu's soundpack has been the source of pain for a few other users as well.

I don't know if that was the case for you, but it is something to consider. Had you tried AH2 without MSP prior to the reinstall?

I did the same. i.e. did a reinstall. Originally I had version 2 and patches. I don't get any CTDs now but still get a stutter at times. I also did not reinstall the sound pack and have left the default sound and lastly I have not touched the film viewer after reinstalling.

The stutters, I can live with, the CTDs I can't --- so I am ok at the moment

Regards

Acetnt

Yup now played a long time without CTD. So it has to be either
a) The 2.0 + patches or
b) Mitsus sounds.

Some of us have installed the game on two different systems on the home LAN, on a buddy's system for him as part of an XP upgrade, with different operating systems, hardware (CPU/vid/mem/MB/sound card/game controllers) differnt mixes of loaded applications -- with no CTDs, no stutters and less overall bugginess than AH1 (exits for example used to hang occasionally) and perhaps a dozen other recent games. So, it's kinda hard to really admit to how buggy AH2 is for some of us...

Yup I understand, I am just wondering if the problems were being caused by the original AH2.0 file + the 5 patches.
New downloadable AH2 exe file is an all in one 2.5.
Or by Mitsus sounds, which I am downloading and gonna install.
Stay tuned for the next installment, same AH time, same AH channel.

I'd be inclined to blame the sound pack... I've been patching since 2.0 (which was a full version install) and I find patch 5 to be quite stable.  I am not running any third party stuff..

For the record I'm also running it at 1600x1200x32 with the sliders at about 80 percent full detail.

I haven't had a single CTD in patch 5 (4 was really bad).  And its worthy of note that I have never lost VOX, not even once since AH2 came out, which by it self I consider a nice improvement over AH1.

Missing the point..??
« Reply #14 on: July 15, 2004, 12:37:04 PM »
I think most of us are so caught up in trying to make this game work that we are missing the real problem.

1) We have purchased software....
2) We have loaded it on machines that exceed the minimum   requirements set by the manufacture....
3) We have spent many hours in the game.....(with years of experience in AH)....
4) We have installed new drivers, updated systems, ETC...

Why are we getting involved in solving their problem?

Now don’t say " we are beta testing”..really, I haven’t been paid for my service...come to think of it we are paying them to get stressed out and not enjoy the product WE pay for, that I once enjoyed for close to 2 years...

I dont know about the rest of you but, I play for fun..Right now Its not fun...

Our acceptance of a product that is released too soon is insane

Now I cant wait to see all the HTC defenders reply...err..lemmings

Final: We have a choice to Pay and play it as is or not, Dont We.
