Why dont we hear as much about the B2? On channels such as Discovery wings they bring up the B2 and show it flying low level and droping bombs on targets. I have not heard about the B2 being used in a war though. Has the B2 never been used in a war? Or is it "top secret" kinda stuff...

IIRC the B2 was used extensively in Afghanistan. Flew round trip from Missouri.

When I was a tool maker, I actually worked on a huge wing lay up tool (used for composites) for one at Boeing in 1981, without knowing it..its designation was .  Did alot of templates too in 1987.

FWIW: The B-2 has smooth curves (unlike the F-117 Stealth) because of advances in computer 3D design (CADCAM) during its development(For stealth)..or so I've been told.

I don't think the designation is in use anymore since it was in the R&D stage, but I wanted to be sure. Those Boeing guys on the board that may have also worked on it know its a 3-number designation.

Ever heard one go over in quiet mode?  Freaky stuff.  Here's this giant wing going right over you head at no more than 1000 feet and all you hear is the sound of a slight gust of wind.

muhehehe it would be interesting to see, how effective it were.

Flying 12 hours there, 12 hours back wish a lala load .... ummm

That may have been the purpose of the mission. "We can hit anywhere, anytime, from our doorstep, to yours, and steathy.."  Doesn't matter the effectiveness of a handful of dumb bombs...;)

They carried an extra crew member so they could rest.
It was pretty weird for the crews.  On some of the missions they would drop the kids off the school, go fight in the war, then come back and sleep in their own bed late that night/morning.

In case some folks in the region forgot about the B52s that flew a sortie from Barksdale AFB in Louisiana to launch cruise missles on Baghdad and then RTB? :)

I read somewhere that some crews bought walmart folding chairs or recliners (eg, beach chairs) and found that they could 'deploy' them inside the cabin and sleep on them and that it was so effective, the USAF expensed a bunch of them, one for each bomber.  When not in use, they are folded up and stowed.

Does anyone know if this is true?

I seem to remember a single B-2 taking out about every building the Bayth party had in Bagdad.  It was quite a show...

They just had it in the paper ther that the B2 is now capable of droping 80 independently targeted JDAMS at once.

Thats 80 satilite guided bombs on 80 different targets.

Pretty cool if you ask me.
