I need a job
« on: July 15, 2004, 10:54:30 PM »
I am finding out the hard way that it is not WHAT you know its WHO you know, so do anyone know of any employment oppurtunities? I am mainly looking for an inside sales/account rep, with minimal cold calling.

Wow....

One of the few resumes whose format I don't have a chuckle over. Rare these days it seems. I wish you the best of luck.

Some truth to that for sure, but the job I am at now I was hired on as a temp to help set up the store and in 8 months have received a substantial raise (over 30%) and a promotion singularly due to my hard work and the results from it.  I didn't know a single soul there before I started working there. I am in the same biz you are snapper.

Good luck, and good hunting.

Seth, your job history is less than ideal, no offense intended here just a suggestion as an employer.
Consider combining your sales experience as opposed to listing all your different employers.... you look like a job hopper even though you're fresh out of college.  Speaking of which, give your degree a little more pizzaz... be proud of it!  I'd even consider putting it before your job "credentials."

It's not necessarily who you know.  Since you are looking for a sales job, you are  going to have to be aggressive in your search and interviews.  Consider looking into cellular?

Also, every sales rep loathes cold calling, don't tell your prospective employer this though!

good luck!

I was about to say the same as Steve.  The first thing I noticed is that it appears that you don't stay at a job very long before moving on.  I wasn't sure why until I got down to your education and realized that you'd just graduated and those were your college jobs.

Move that education block above your work experience.  If you have a decent GPA put it on there to draw some more attention to your education.  List you minor as well. Note, listing GPA and minor are only for folks who have just graduated college...otherwise it looks pretentous...I want to know what you did once you got the degree rather than how well you did in school.  I always remember that Colin Powell was a "C" student in college, but he was still an excellent leader.

Also, in your skills section, I don't see where you mention your computer skills and the office productivity software that you know how to use.

Education first, then job experience, then achievements, and lastly job skills not otherwise mentioned under job experience.  That bachelor's degree will open the door, the job experience will get you through it.

Temp work will get your name in a few different companies in various fields and let you see the workplaces from the inside, the interactions that customers and clients don't see.
