Patch 6 report
« on: July 17, 2004, 08:44:55 AM »
For me Stutters/freezes are gone. So to that extent its worked.
On the down side.  the high end of my framerates dropped from highs of 72fps to 42 fps reguardless of slider settings.
Although they sometimes  go as high as 52
on the low end frames still drop like a stone occasionally to the low teens (usualy at the worst possable time))

Dont understand it Was just inside  the edge ofa large furball last night  Frames were 35fps then jumped to 52 fps, back down to 32 fps then leaving the furball and while over water and only having 3 othewr planes in view Frames dropped to 22 FPS.

Another instance While in a furball they went from 38 fps to 16 fps for a fw moments then back up to 30 fps

And in yet another instances while in the same furball as the last ones Frames stayed between 34 and 38 fps which would be fine by me if it remained that way a majority of the time
Unfortunately this has been the exeption rather then the norm

Reguardless of frame rates, while in a furball stutters are gone but seeing alot of miniwarping

Didnt have a chance to check out the frames while in GVs where my frames have REALLY sucked (usually in the teens) and at best in the low 20's because there wasnt any real GV options that I coulds see on this current map and the way its layed out. But thats another subject entirely

loading textures into system mem seem to have no effect on frames or stutters Which were gone before I clicked that option to see if it might help my frames. So I unclicked that option again
But, at least the stutters are gone. which in itself is a huge improvement.

For me I have seen an increase in my overall frame rate by about 15+, but I too experienced nearly the same FR drop last night during a furball around A10. For a brief moment I dropped from 40+ down to the high teens, although the low framerate had no effect, the game did not become jerky or stuttery..it remained smooth as if the FrameRate indicator ( Ctrl i) was not having any effect on the actual framerate..it soon cleared up

Texture redrawing when taking off or landing is still there though, I think this is in my card since there is no up to date driver like the Win2000, WinXP users have had access to the last few months.

guess it's time to upgrade and add more memory.......( accepting donations   :D  )

AMD AthlonXP 1700+ (default settings )
Win98se ( all uptodate drivers )
ecs K7S5A Pro MB
256 meg DDR 333mhz
W.D. 80 gig HD
Ati Radeon 9000 64 meg DDR ( Cat 4.3 driver )
ZoneAlarm Pro

The biggest impact on fr's for me is the ground detail slider, the further I draw textures the worse my fr is. I set mine to just left of centered and rarely go below 35fps in the most heavy smoke and furball enviroment at a base, and 75 monitor max refresh everywhere else

Update.
Realised I haad changed my AA settings so I changed them back to "off/Application controled"

Game takes a LONG time to  load when logging on. 15-20 seconds

High end of framerates back in 70s.when higher then 5K occasionally dipping to the 30s and 40's  in FPS
BUT
ANY time I fly near the ground my frames drop to the intollerable teens 12-18 FPS unless I am over water, then they only drop to 22fps

Problem with adjusting the sliders more is the way I enjoy flying has so much to do with the ground that  if I reduce settings any more then I wont be able to  see on the ground what Im trying to hit untill Im right on top of it.

Another problem is my frames get screwed when dogfighting near the ground where the vast majority of my dogfights take place

Stutters are by and large gone but still happen occasionally, Actually its more of a slight pause  or hiccup then a stutter.

WTG on the stutters

HELP!  on the framerates please!!

I've tried everything on MY end that I can think of and have found on the boards to try From running "enditall"
to changing AA settings and screen resolution.

I personally am out of ideas

As it stands now. the game is tolerable. But JUST barely.

My stutter problems have dis-a-freeking-peared!  The bad news is that I now have no excuse for getting shot down all the time, but that is another story...

Beleive it or not my "Default settings" that is the settings that the game itself set it up for was Max detail on everything. including ground detail
I have now had it for a while set at about 3/4  to the left in favor of detail on everything
with ground detail set a bit higher

Max Textures per frame is set at 5  which was/is its defaut setting as set byt he game.but it would seem it can be manually changed other then to click the box for max textures

BTW thanks for responding

I am constantly adjusting sliders to optimize graphics based on my mission. I choose max performance when doing dogfighting, I choose max detail when doing Jabo or attacking GV's from the the air. I am getting 74fps in air with Shift-F1 detail in a dogfight (and sliders set to performance). I am getting down to 15fps in Shift-F4 ground detail mode (and sliders shoved to max detail). All of the above with "512" textures.

If there is an optimal setting for air assaults on GV's that allows great detail without driving fps into the basement - I haven't found it yet.

Stutters are completely gone with this patch 6 though. I choose the option of loading to video memory. Works great.

AMD Athlon XP 2000+,  MMX,  3DNow, ~1.7GHz
Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1

SoundBlaster Audigy 2 set to 75% hardware acceleration
1GB 266Mhz DDR PC2100 RAM (running at 133Mhz)
ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256MB DDR w/ Omega 2.5.58 (based on Cat 4.7 drivers)
Viewsonic 17PS monitor set to 1024x768x32bit color and 100 Hertz/refresh rate.

I haven't been able to fly since downloading the patch 6.  I have a P4 3 ghz
ATI 9800 pro
1gig 3200 ddr
Abit Ic7G MOBO.

Been through alot with AH over the past 4 years.  This is the worst.

I removed the router, renamed the aceshigh forlder, uninstalled aces high, downloaded the  full AH, installed it, removed the firewall, removed virus protection, renamed the vid config files, and probably some other things that don't come to mind.  I'm thinking I have a 64 meg nvidea card and I may uninstall the ati and try downgrading to match the patch.  I'm going to call for phone support monday and try to get back in the air.  I couldn't connect to the host, can't go alternate route, can't start a new account, can't do a dang thing.  NOJACK:(

Well since I got some time on my hands I removed the ati 9800 Pro and installed old chaintck 64 meg nvidea.  I wish that I could say that fixed it.  I uninstalled ati software rebooted installed nvidea, rebooted.  Went into task manager and stopped some programs.  Turned antivirus off, and Viola!  nothing!!  Still can't connect to host, and now I think I have something stupid going on that I just can't see.  Oh, I did uninstall AHII and delete folders and reinstall and reboot etc.  I'm at a loss.  NOJACK:(

Sounds almost like your where I am. Slid all sliders to the right not 1 hour ago. end result was 15 FPS when doing a ground run. along with a big FREEZE just as I was pulling a turn at the bottom of my dive
Seems to be  worse when ther eare alot of planes around

Was in a dogfight that degraded to ground level 13 FPS in F3 mode
Again seems worse when there are alot fo planes around By ALOT I mean more then 6

Eye Candy?

Frame rates have always been low for my vid card and or connection (dial up), but to the extent, that I wonder if having clouds or smoke, really increases the realism of the game if it sacrifices so much of the flight model.

Just an idea but, since those things appear to gobble fps, maybe an option to toggle them like clutter.

HTC, I wonder if some low tech  solutions might be useful to cutting down on the number of bug reports that appear to be performance issues.

:aok And if that works keep rollin it back (like WalMart:p) until I can get to play on my laptop again.

Don't get me wrong about performance posts, I appreciate the insight into possible future hardware upgrades and the validation that others are seeing the same things that I have experienced.

I guess I am saying two things:

1- Maybe all of the eye candy is not worth it, and hopefully easy to remedy or toggle off (sliders and multiple configurations may just be too complicated for catz like me - -  with no opposable thumbs ) :lol

2-  I would like to see everyone getting back to the business of having fun, despite the occasional stutter or disco, and HTC spending time on what they intended on improving, gameplay - or was it eye candy?

HTC if you are listening I would like to hear what you think.

When I downloaded the new patch6.  Started AH and  Zone Alarm (which was turned off in the tool bar, you know right click shut down) was aparantly running resident and would not let me log on and I couldn't see the message because the AH pane was up front.  Crap what a waste. So there you have it.  NOJACK

Glad to hear you found the problem ! Sorry I didn't think of that. Early on I realized that patching the executable caused my McAfee firewall software to prevent my starting the game up. It's so "2nd nature" now to delete the patched application from the internet enabled list of software and re-add it that I forgot about that as a possibility.

WTG !
