You know like the Patriot Act.
beat cops dont make a police state. Especially when the moneys to hire them are distributed piece meal accross the country.
Just in case Fox News doenst explain the difference.

What would you know about Fox News? Your government won't even let you watch it. Maybe you don't need any police at all to live in a police state. Just a repressive government and a society of sheep.

When I see a rational man that equates hiring more police with becoming a police state. I know that propoganda is at work somewhere. Since you apperanlty have a sub cranial subscription to fox news I assumed that was the source of your dishonest ignorance.

Like I said, I'm not concerned about it. However, for the sake of argument I'll play Devil's Advocate. There are many in the US that already consider it to be a "police state", particularly among those in areas of abject poverty. From their perspective additional police (was it 100,000 additional police for NYC alone that Kerry was proposing?) are only further repression by a nonrepresentative government.

A police state has to have a force unanswerable to the will of the people capable of instilling fear but not necessarily secret.

we can still get it through the internet...

police state is-
A state in which the government exercises rigid and repressive controls over the social, economic, and political life of the people, especially by means of a secret police force.

n : a country that maintains repressive control over the people by means of police (especially secret police)
