can i turn this into a bash compaq thread ??? tee hee

nah ... its just every compaq i put my paws on always has tecnology older then the hills in it  (AE  a 2002 model still using a K-6 /486 processor )  try to get a manual online for one of these and well you better just forget it . no support

Hp can be the same way on some of there older stuff .

dells can be a pain to but i can ussually find manuals and specs /drivers for them. but ya have to take a look inside to beshure ,they change mb's monthly .

Gateway though has a serial number log of all there pc's and its a peice of cake getting drivers/info for those .(until hardware gets changed)

I got some help from Estes, and now my system is clean.  Now I need to know what to install.

I got the video drivers in, but my sound card is still giving me trouble.  I opened up the case and reinserted the sound card.  It still says that it cant find the hardware.

Any suggestions?:)

Have to agree with LePaul, Dell servers work great, just their laptops/desktops that suck.
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
Asus M3N-HT mobo
2 x 2Gb Corsair 1066 DDR2 memory

United glad to here you got the sound card working! It was probably a conflicting IRQ , hence when you moved it to the bottem PCI slot the IRQ assigned to it was avalible (with nothing else using it)

Have you found out the mobo model? if not got to dell on your old system , find the drivers and save to a floppy then use the floppy to install them on your new machine!
