Getting DirectTV installed this afternoon. For $50 a month I am on the Total Choice Plus package and even keeping my cable modem service through Charter I am saving around $40 a month. When I had Charter Digital Cable it was $85 a month just for cable television and I continually had problems with the television side of the service with the picture going out on different sets all over the house.

Uh, yeah, that review is way off the mark.  Sounds like the two are pretty close in what they can do (PVR/TiVO), if you opt for the top end PVR from DiSH.
Actually, the top end PVR can record two channels at the same time as you are watching a previously recorded show.  It does require a dual LNB dish for this feature though.

The time shift (when a program moves around) can miss the mark by a couple of minutes though.  That is about the only anomaly I have had.  Heck,..its free, so it is a bit tough to complain.

I dunno.

I look at it this way.  In our area, anything (including rabbit ears) is better than the cable service we have available (Comcast).
It is about a 50/50 split, in our neighborhood, between DiSH and DirectTV.
Everyone has thier own reasons for picking one over the other.  The only constant I hear from the DirectTV folks is DiSH has faster menus than DirectTV.
Some of the DiSH folks like the TiVO service, but the price is better at DiSH with the PVR.
Trade-offs.

I have Comcast cable internet service here, and it's great.  Fast as hell down, and slightly faster than snot up, but I can live with the slow upload speed.  The service is $53, or $43 if I buy cable TV service.  So, I pay $10 for local channels plus Discovery.  I was going to step up to the next programming package to get more channels, until I found out that the next step up is $42 and that doesn't even get me into Digital Cable!  For $39.99/mo, I could get a two room Dish Network setup with their America's Top 120 and Locals.  Unfortunately, my apartment manager nazis won't allow me to put up the dish.

I didn't say there wasn't any.  I just never had a reason to inquire about it.

Ya know there was actually a federal court decision that they have to let you put up a dish as long as it is inside the space you rent.  If you have a patio or a balcony or a deck, they can't legally stop you from putting up a dish there as long as you don't drill holes, etc.

There is no NFL plan at DiSH.  You are stuck with whatever the local affiliates will give you.  They do have a college football plan.

No big deal to me.  I could care less about football.

But for those that need to have that feature, DiSH is not for you.
