Cricket: 1st W. Indies test at Lord's
« on: July 23, 2004, 11:35:02 AM »
Oh what a cracking start! England finishing on 568 in the first innings. The famous England batting collapse did not start till about 390 - lol. Windies now 169-4; looking like they'll be struggling to avoid the follow on.

Any Ozzies here following this? We STILL have Richie Benaud as commentator - he's been doing it for about 100 years. Heard he actually PLAYED for OZ c1956?

Classic quote: "I used to wish I didn't have so much grey hair. Now I wish I had more of it" - Richie Benaud today at Lords. :lol

Windies entire cricket program is a disaster.

If England don't win easily they should be ashamed of themselves.

Cricket is NOT a sport. It is a confusing jumble of pseudo-rules and madeup phrases that the Brits used to confuse and sublimate their colonies. Notice how it didn't catch on here? We were smart enough to morph it into baseball... a real sport.

Now go throw a googlie.

The Brits vaporised their colonies? Wow! How aggressive!

BTW, what sort of test do you give crickets? Do you try to stomp them and see if they leap out of the way? Or is it a written test?

If a cricket scores 100 on the test, does he get a good job?

How's this whole "testing of crickets" thing work, anyway? Do you guys test other insects as well?

Just as well the colonials are still around to put you back in your box   ;)

Let me get this right, the other countries (oz, NZ, india, w. indies, pakistan, bangladesh, south africa, sri lanka etc etc)   who had no problem adopting cricket with all its "complicated" rules are stupid but the US who had to simplify it untill it resembles rounders, a game played by primary school girls (aged 5-11) are smart and manly.

I think i see.

 :)

On a slightly more serious note here is an introduction to cricket for americans

The Windies are 208-4 at stumps on day two (having been 118-0 at one point). Lets hope England can force the follow-on tomorrow.
