Question...
« on: July 23, 2004, 08:18:52 PM »
Say, I uhhh...downloaded AH and installed it on my PC. Then say I need to get a stick setup but don't want to spend $450 on CH gear because I'm not even sure I'd like the game (no offense HT)

What would be a decent setup? How required are pedals? Do any sticks still have the built in rudder controls on the stick like the Microsoft one did?

I use an MS  Sidewinder Precision 2. They dont make them anymore but you can still find them around on ebay ect brandnew for like 30 bucks. And trust me, thats all the setup you'll ever need.

No use for 500+ dollar wannabe pilot crap.

MS Force Feedbacktwisty stick. I think I paid $70. Works like a charm.

Of course I suck, so don't listen to me.

Another option:
Saitek X45 Flight control system (Throttle, Stick) refurbished (brand new usually, maybe a nick in it somewhere) for $39.00 at Saiteks website.

SLO, it's the 24th of July.

You are going to be looking for a new stick by middle of September...guaranteed.

If you can return that logitech stick I recommend you do it.

I have been through 4 of them now (yeah I know...I'm a slow learner hehe), and they all became unusable inside of 2 to 3 months.

Usually (for me anyway) the rudder goes, first then pitch and roll will start to spike uncontrollably.

It's really too bad, because the stick "feels" good and ergonomically is very comfortable.

Anyway, just a heads up SLO.

I have been using a Saitek cyborg EVO for 4 months now without a hiccup.

cheers,

RTR

Yo.

you can fly with an ElCheapo whatever stick, as long as your system can run the game.

have to map all the button and such, but alot fly with a twisty stick and that is all. pedals and an x45 or better are nice toys, but the game can be played with a mouse even LOL.

<> have fun and any stick questions, ask me online JB73, residnet tech support for the III/Jabostaffle squad.
I don't know what to put here yet.

I'm flying with a Saitek Cyborg EVO. It was under $50, and takes all the abuse I dish out. Very adjustable, no software needed, and relatively smooth and stable. Twisty rudders work well. Twelve buttons that are mappable counting the trigger. Throttle built in, and a view hat. Just remember to grip lightly, and release regularly, or you'll end up with unwanted rudder input, causing drag.

LOL, I spotted that at WalMart, I'll pick it up Saturday. I should be ashamed, my birthday is in two weeks and I'm buying my own present early.

One of the main differences between AW and AH is the flexibility of AH's key mapping software.

You don't need too many buttons or too complex a stick as you can program each button in four ways just within AH.

AH also supports multiple sticks; so it's quite feasable to get to $9.95 sticks; and use one of them as rudders etc.

I wouldn't say pedals are a must; but some kind of rudder control is.

I've even seem a cordless twisty stick; it works quite well.

You do know Culero's flying; don'tcha? :)

I use the MSPP sidewinders bought on EBay for 20 bucks.
I went thro 4 cyborgs in a year and logiteks are not mush better.
They have no staying power and begin to spike within months..

Both brands. MSP sticks on the other hand last and last and you
calibrate it once, when you initialy set it up.

Never calibed it again. The wingman and cyborgs I owned were always losing the calib..
