Bentley in Record £2.8M Sale By PA News Reporter A historic Bentley sports car sold for a world record £2.8 million at auction today.The 1930 Bentley Speed Six, described as an “exceptional racing Titan”, won the Double Twelve race and came second in the Le Mans 24-hour contest that year.The car went under the hammer at a Christie’s auction in France to coincide with the Le Mans Classic event this weekend.A private buyer, who was not named, bought the Bentley for £2,784,741 (4,188,250 euros).It was the highest price yet paid at auction for a Bentley, Christie’s said.The car was clocked at 112mph on the finishing straight during its victorious Double Twelve-Hour race at the Brooklands track near Weybridge, Surrey, in 1930.Christie’s said the Bentley was regarded as “the finest and most important” surviving example of its kind.
