Good time for more strat
« on: June 07, 2001, 09:21:00 AM »
Was thinking (oh oh, hear the 'Drip, drip, drip?)...now that another major sim has hit the street, how many of you would sacrifice the potential of new A/C being implemented into AH for something along the lines of more strat?  We all know of the endless excellent ideas in the gameplay forum, railroads, supply lines, etc. etc.  With limited resourses that HTC has, its obvious that it would be short of a miracle to have your cake and eat it too, so the question would be this:

(Note: This thread deals with only these two questions, if you have something to add, start another thread :))

Would you like to see a fuller planeset?

Would you like to see more strategy added?

Trains, supply planes and convoy automobiles? Sure!!

A question?  Ripsnort, you were at last years Con. What was the sense of direction you got and how has it played out so far? Afaik there's stuff in the works that no one knows about right now. This from some generalisations (in other words nothing specific) from a few folks who have seen HT over the past few weeks in RL. So maybe HTC will surprise the players with some nice features in regard to strat.

But strat needs a purpose, no? That buzz phrase being tossed around so loosely lately.
Since life, limb and loss of liberty are not at stake in online games it boils down to land grab and points. Give folks a mission planning, a complex comms system, a reward system (points, perks and base capture), the hammer which to pound the nail and we should be all set to go, no?  Well. We have all that.  No, it's not an auto or "scripted" strat as it takes effort and though. But still, how many use the tools AH has to date anyway.  Even if we had trains, bridges, onvoys, a two country layout, a system appointed Field Marshall Uber Alles for each and historically assigned aircraft we will still see the same gameplay that has been seen in AW, WB, FA and in AH to date.

But IMO a built in strat system could be a great boon to those who love that sort of thing AND it would be alot of fun for those who do not because it stills draws the bees to the honey.

Thks Pepe, missed that thread.

Westy, good post.  At the time of the con, short term projects were part of the discussions I'd heard (Navy coming, etc.) and , well, they all came...long term, I have no idea, I would like to see a post from Pyro or HTC to see what they see a sim being in , say, 2 years from now.

I think it is VERY good we start to ask this kind of questions. My personal opinion is more strat.

Sure there are zillion of excellent suggestion about strategy but, IMO, all of them are resumed in the idea of giving the country in general, and airfields in particular, some degree of progression in its ability to produce fiters, vehicles, etc.

I am ALL for any measure that tries to model some flow of vehicles, aircrafts, acks, fuel, etc. from productive centres to frontline needs.

Ah! and forests (thinking about tank people here)

Cheers,

Pepe

I'd like to see trees and houses scattered about the landscape that you can NOT turn off... something that you can actually run into with a plane or for those in tanks.. hide behind.
