How to dyno a jet
« on: July 27, 2004, 07:17:15 AM »
Hooo-boy, lemme tell ya, you physics guys are gonna love this one.  The post starter wants to understand why a roller dyno for finding the horsepower/torque of a car would not work for a jet powered vehicle.

Some nuggets:

"Always have your jet in neutral rather than in gear when testing on a dyno."

"Picture a jet-powered dyno wheel, and a man wearing rollerblades sitting on a unicycle on the dyno. Now, if you throttle up the dyno wheel to full speed, and hooked a tow truck to the guy on the unicycle while someone ran up and pushed him from behind, only THEN would you move forward."

"I swear this is like watching Muhammed Ali and Michael J Fox in a Jenga tournament."

The haiku beratements begin on page 3.
