Cannon Convergence Issues

Hey all, was wanting some feedback on an interesting development last evening in the AH2 MA.

Normally, I'm a .50 cal kinda guy, love the ammo load and the rate of fire while tooling around in my FM2, as well as the range/velocity of the MG's as I attempt to land hits during deflection and closing shots.  Hispanos and MK151's seem to have a similar flat trajectory; so if I'm upped in a Spit or 109 I really don't seperate the cannon range convergence from the MGs.

Last night I got in a C.205 for a change of pace and absolutley fell in love with the little Italian bird, but my accuracy was HORRID.  Luckily with the huge cannon load and a bit of luck, I was able to score kills and rtb a few times, where I started messing around with the 20mm convergence a bit, seperating it from the MGs, setting the cannons out about 350, while keeping the mgs in tight at 300.  Started seeing MG and Cannon pings together much more consistently from 200-400, where before it was one or the other.

Is it my imagination, or does convergence on lower-velocity cannons raise the point of impact of the rounds as you set it out further to allow the flatter-firing mgs to impact in the same vertical area as the cannons?

The C.205 is armed with MG151/20s.  The same as on the Bf109s and Fw190s.

Covergence has 2 components, horizontal and vertical.  The farther out you set your convergence, the more shells "arc" before they pass through your gunsight at the desired range.  

So if you have convergence set to 650, and you fire at a plane 200 yards in front of you, all of you rounds may well fly over his head.

The horizontal component is easy.. the guns are set so the rounds cross at some point X yards in front of you, after that they diverge again so at 2X your rounds will be landing like they would at a range of 0, except they'll be lower.

Want a real wakeup call, set 30 or 37mm cannon 100 longer than MG's.

They'll all hit at the same place which can be devestating.

It makes shooting the big bores MUCH easier. Been flying the Yak9T almost exclusivly since AH2 went gold, and doing pretty well with it.

PS don't take my word for it.

Get your plane in level auto pilot headed north. Pull up the target with the .target 300 command. Fire a good 1 second burst of cannon first, then MG's.  See where each hits.

Then go adjust convergience to bring them all into line VERTICALLY. IE 20 mm 50 long, 30mm & bigger takes more. (useing 100 for the 37mm)

Same test with a clean target.

Now you tell me, Optical illusion?

Methinks NOT.

Key thing to remember, even if you set cannon long, still shoot with it short. The closer the better.
