The other day, I was reading the book by Tillman, Hellcat. It got me thinking that a Marianas Turkey Shoot Scenario may be cool. Before everyone says that it would suck and that the Hellcats would cream the Zekes, listen to what I thought might make the scenario workable. The key to making this scenario good would be two major things.
First, a good map of the Marianas. Have airfields on Guam, Saipan and Tinian, with Iwo Jima in the area.
Second, being able to turn the dar off in the planes, but leaving it active in the tower of the CV's, with possibly only sector bar available with dot dar at a reduced range. This would add a bit of realism to the scenario and the ability for the Japanese to have a fighting chance of getting through to the big ships. Why? Because you would need to have fighter directors giving orders to the CAP fighters on where to make their intercept.
This is where my question for the CM's comes in. Is it possible to set up the dar so it is only visible in the towers? If not, then this would be kind of a pointless scenario, though the settings used in HS could possibly work.
I am really interested in the PTO and have been for quite some time. Since we don't have the planeset for the classic CV battles of 1942, this could possibly be the next best thing. I suppose for this to really be good, we would need an SBD-5 (or a Helldiver, though I would rather have the Dauntless), a Jill, and a Judy. Oh well, it could be fun. Anyone like it or think it is practical?
Thanks for entertaining the ramblings of a rabid PTO fan
