Please make Range Channel an option
« on: July 29, 2004, 11:18:38 AM »
I dont want to hear kids cluttering up the channel, I dont want to hear people complain that so and so didnt give a check six, just passed in front of their guns, or tried to steal kills. Please make it so you can tune to it if you want. A simple check 6 is all thats needed.  Frankly I can control myself on the text, but when people start yapping on range, I will likely start telling them to go f87k themselves.

Or a vote system would be nice.  something like .vote squelch  and the vote would be posted in the corner of everyones screen for 15 seconds.  If enough people vote yes in that area, the vote is passed and they are squelched off that specific channel for....oh say 60-120 mins.

They have these things in other sims and fps games.

Then again, with so many votes going on, it could cause major flame wars.

After thinking about how much I hate range channel lately
and generally just logging off because all the bullcrap that I have to listen too I thought of an idea...

Is it possible to add a secondary vchannel to the right of the current channel selection menu that by default has range channel selected?! This could allow us to turn the channel and have multiple private channels for large squads to split up flights onto separate vchannels. Many times this would have rocked splitting buff traffic and Escort traffic allowing the leader to listen to both channels.
Also we could just turn the secondary vchannel from Range to an empty channel to squelch all traffic...
 Just an idea

the squelchable range channel is fine by me, but i just dont want to hear some guy whine that I should give him a check 6 with the keyboard because he tuned out his vox.

Ive never seemed to have any problems with it. Must be a rook/nit thing :)

Ignore anyone complaining about a check 6 call, they are moronic escapees from the traveling circus

dont like to complain too much on range and dont like to sit on range and use it like a fricken telephone neither, comments on range should be short and sweet so your not cutting out the possible important info comeing in like hey goon at the town or hey low lanc's comeing in. range is good for defence of bases in my opinion, i hate it when i ask a guy something like hey so and so you see that 190 at your 12, and he's got his fricken vox off or muted or whatever, or i ask someone for info on incomeing gv's, con ect. and they cant hear ya.  also hate trying to type something to someone while im flying unless on auto.. one hand on stick one finger pushing buttons, screw it if you want to turn your range channel off then your choice but im just gonna shake my head at ya when the con creeps up your butt and kills you, sorry but sometimes its difficult to get the check six button to highlight on the right player.:p

I agree with everything you said here ... especially the "use it like a fricken telephone" ... geeesh I hate when that happens.

One thing to remember ...

A short while back we were engaged in some fights and I saw a fellow countryman low on the water. An enemy dove in on him and I must have warned him at least 5 or 6 times over vox to check his six and finally ... break break break. Another fellow countryman that was in the vicinity also did the same.

Not a single move on his part so I figured he was AFK. Right after he got shot down, I saw in the local text buffer ... "thanks for the check 6 call". Figuring he didn't have a mic, I typed back that I warned him repeatedly. He then typed back ... "I am deaf so if you warned me on vox I didn't get it". I felt like crap.

Now I try as hard as possible to send both vox and check-6 key.
