Sony laptop Video card?
« on: July 28, 2004, 09:43:56 PM »
Is there a video card upgrade for laptops?

This is my setup.

Sony Vaio - PCGFX390P
Windows XP Pro 2002
20GB HD
512 M ram
Intel Pentium III
993MHZ

Intel 82815 Graphics Controler
Adapter Ram 4.00MB
Resolution 1024x768x60hz

I get the message that my computer's video adapter wont handle the program.

Are there any solutions?

Yes you are in the same boat I was in. You can buy a pci card but its not going to be as fast as agp. You can upgrade to agp for about 130. Thats what I am doing and boosting my ram. Also getting a decent card. for $289

Jet, are you talking about some kind of agp >pci card adapter for $130?  Or just a new agp mobo?

I think Jet missed the most important part of the post.  This is a laptop and it isn't that simple or cheap.

PLease expand. I am a bit of a redneck with computers.

I understand the Ram thing

"You can buy a pci card but its not going to be as fast as agp. You can upgrade to agp for about 130."

WHat is a PCI card? Is this a brand? Or is it a type of card?

 laptops
What card is this?
Is this for a laptop?
Do you have a brand and model number and and specs on this card?

I am completely lost with this laptop....A new computer is really pushing it. We have three Laptops. A new computer just isnt gonna work without extreme luck with the lottery.

What I am looking for is a brand name, type, and company of where I can buy the cards necessary.

PLease help and be specific.

Sacch,
There's only one laptop I know of that allows you to change the "vid card". It's an expensive laptop from alienware.

With most laptops your pretty much stuck with what's in it.
Maybe possible to send it back to manufacturer and have them change it, but is expensive and not worth it, because the vid chip and ram is soldered on the board.

Basically in a nutshell, on a laptop you can only expand the memory, yourself.

 Good Luck
