Spitfire % P-51 sounds
« on: March 10, 2002, 03:36:40 PM »
hi all

after having made the engine sounds for the P-51 and Spitfire, there are engine sounds for the Me109's and Me 110 avaliable also. the Me 109 engine sounds come from a original DB605 engine, which has been tweaked for AH.

you may use the same engine sound files for all Me 109's and even for the Me 110, becasue by some reason the AH game uses different frequencies for the different 109's and for the 110 ... it works fine and sounds really different.

try them out by downloading through right click.

have fun

:)  Thanks for taking the time to post and edit these engine sounds. As a professional pilot I enjoy having the sounds as close as possible to the real thing. I know one engine start wav file for a fighter is actually a sound from a PA28-151, thats a little 4 place Piper with a 150 horse engine. Having the real meal deal is superior. Will be watching for your further updates. Here is a web page with a few sounds on it..

If you are interested  and like the MS flight sereies software this is a web site that I am a participating developer, as I am a B747 Captain and am Capt Dave at the site, we are producing a virtual B747 cockpit where every switch works.

Souces for those engine sound files
« Reply #2 on: March 11, 2002, 11:08:01 AM »
hi flybywire

thanks for the reply :) .. nice to see another real pilot. i used to fly the PC-7 trainer for a while. the source of those sound files are recordings i've made on a warbirds airshow as well as from a cd-rom set which contains several ouside and inflight engine sounds. for exaple the engine start sounds of the Spitfire, P-51 and Corsair are originals, cut to be heard in AH and the eng.wav files have been tweaked from originals to make them work on AH

The inflight sound and the external sound are pretty different. but in order to have a good feeling in our virtual cockpits iv'e tried to get a compromise of internal and external sounds, in favour to external effects, to let them sounds like you her them flyby and have pleasure on the effects.

I'm working on the Corsair and Lancaster sounds actually, which honestly are squeakes to produce. the corsair sound is something unique, you cant compare with other sounds.

will post those sounds here as well when i have them , after maybe having got 500 coffes and a bunch of aspirines due to listen the files again and again.

thanks for reply ... airmess

P51 Spit F4u & Yak Sound Sets

Awesome Sound Files!

I strongly reccommend trying these & comparing them to the default sound set.  I have used many different wave sets, and I find that these files add not only realism, but a ballsy drive equivalent to the music of finely tuned headers & pipes on your dream ride.  Like havin' the top down on a crisp night carvin' twisties and burnin' up the flats in a GTO on a hot summer night with the Babe that your dreams are made of!

Nice Work!

Thanks!

Salute! airmess

how are those cd's? I've been eyeballing them, but not knowing whats on them completly, and not knowing if theres enough "source" material to actually make a loop that doesn't have pitch shift or noticiable noise is kinda a risk to take.

Most of the engine files that I've collected for a sound pack have been from internet sources, and I've just been editing and equing, cleaning up ect.... listening to sources that are like flybywires first listed site, and trying to curve it in close to what the exterior fly-bys sound like.

The one tough thing that I'm trying to do is find a blend between the interior and exterior sounds that you hear in game.  Un fortunelatly, there are not seperate sound sources for these.

Least the gvs sounds that I put together have been "approved" by a person on here who was in the military and was in an AFV.

Would love to be able to achieve the same quality with the aircraft.

Have Nuendo rig as well as a ProTools rig that I use for work, and I am able to clean up and edit varous loops / sounds. Just finding legitimate , quality sources is the problem.

I would love to hear the sounds, but no go on the sounds airmess. Actually No go on the 109/110 sounds.

right now I'm trying to get enough "sample" out of a 190 fly by that Jb73 sent me. I'm having to put a doppler effect, in reverse, on the original file to hopefully smooth enough of the sound out to be usable without the pitch change.

Tough tweaking...lol
