Interesting.

The Japanese sortied 98 fighters to the American's 74.  Of those 98 Japanese fighters 81 were top 'o the line Ki61s, whereas the Americans only fielded 49 F4U-1s.  16 American fighters were F4F-4s, which were pretty well outclessed by the A6M2.  The weakest Japanese fighter was the A6M5b, which is more than a match for anything but the F4Us.  The Ki-61 can hold it's own against anything flying.

So, given that, I think the USN did a phenominal job.  Way to go, guys!

Of course that all goes in the dumpster if the sortie counts include initial crashes.  CV8 was turning and I lost cound of the number of people who died trying to get airborne.  It'd be interesting to see how many of each fighter actually got into a position to engage.  I'm assuming the K161s didn't have that problem, given they're land based, but for all I know you guys launched from a CV somewhere.  You sure overpowered the CAP on CV8!  I didn't know if we'd been shot, stabbed, run over, or bombed   :D

In any event, it was a great frame.   to all, and thanks to the Black Knight, who always triumphs, for hosting.

Puck:

Keep in mind that the 81 sorties included 28 that were 2nd life Ki-61's.  Val and Kate pilots got a 2nd plane that we rolled about 1/2 way through the evening for a 2nd strike on P31.  At the start we had 51 Ki-61's up.

Establishing local air superiority over CV8 was by design :D!

It was fun though the IJN got really bored toward the end after the initial raid on C3 and V38 and therefore had nobody left to CAP C3 the last 25-20 minutes when the Nightmares came in and sunk 3 DD's!

The first 5 minutes don't count. I think it was TOD #2 when a wind setting was high and on the deck. (CM's were still learning about wind.) Anway more than 1/2 my squad of 18 that launched from a CV splashed. I did not let anyone reup since it was a one life event. We were not the only squad. After reading the complaints on this BB I decided to give the first five minutes to the players. Things happen. :)

Everyone re-upped (several times in a few cases :D ) but I don't know if the logs treat every spawn as a sortie or not.  I was circling the CV looking at this HUGE blob of yellow (friendly icon color) punctuated with the occasional splash of flame as someone hit the island  :rofl

I watchind the film, Daddog, and I must say you were one lucky puppy.  I only got ONE pass on you with my lone F4U before your cavlry arrived and re-arranged my airfoils...you got away from me, darn it!  :)

LOL .. sorry the IJN were bored but TBMs and F4Fs are slow!

We were originally assigned to hit A10 which we hit around T+50. So we were out West. Then after the DAMNED were repulse on th attack on your CV we were assigned to hit that fleet while the AKs tried to hit V38 (not sure what happened to the USMC strike on V38).

So basically we flew from 10,8,4 (that is where CV25 was), west then NE and hit A10. Then S (avoiding a fleet to the S of A10) then over to A5 to stage out of there. And then off to 10,10 area.

Sort of waddling all over the map .. oh, for faster planes. :)

Oh, a couple of us had problems launching from CV25 and crashed / ditched. Was sort of strange.

Numbers were off. They'll likely be back up in time and as the wrinkles are smoothed out. Still, I had fun. to all that create these events and those that participate.
