Desktop Dump Blues

I've been trying to sign up for AH and seem to be having a weird
problem.  I can't get the program to run.  Everytime I click on the exe
file (or shortcut) it starts AH and goes to the clipboard "view".  When
I click on any of the buttons (online, offline, help, etc.) my screen
flashes and I dump back to the desktop.  I even went so fas as to
redownload the entire base file and update but I get the same thing.
Any ideas?  Here's my setup:

Celeron 300a o/c 450
64 mb PC100
Elsa Erazer TNT 2, 32mb version
Using the latest Dynamite Riva drivers (updated last month)
DX7
SB Live Value

I also have 2 Monster 2 12mb cards running in SLI, but I am trying to
use the TNT2 card.

Thanks for the help!

Are you sure it's dumping to the desktop and not minmizing?

Also, have you tried it with the Voodoo's to see if the same thing is happening?

Yep, it's dumping to desktop alright. Definitely not minimizing.  I dleted the video.cfg file so I could get the video choice box to show up again.  Then I chose the Voodoo2's for video.  Once again I could get it to the opening clipboard screen.  Now, if I cloick on any button, all the buttons disappear and the game locks up solid.  Tried rebooting three different times and it always locks up using the voodoo2's.

I'm getting deperate here.    I'm assuming, since choosing a different video card makes it react differently, that I have some sort of driver problem.  I will go in search of new drivers again (although mine are only 4 weeks old) and see if that helps.  Any chance an older driver might work?

Thanks!

Just a thought here...

Have you ever gotten as far as setting up video within game before this trouble started? You may need to bump down to 16bit and give it a go.

Also upgrade to directx 7a

And can you check the date and size on a file called models.res ?

I have had some weird dumps in the past starting AH.  Believe it or not they seemed to related to my sound card and its drivers.

On my system AH will not run without a sound card installed and set-up correctly.

This may not be the case in your instance, but if you are grabbing at straws check it out.

Absolutley your O/C 300A. Mine hates AH, and it had to back it dowm to 2.05V and make sure it's cool.

Do it, and it will work (with occational dumps)

Going Vmo!

Direct X 7a did the trick.  Thanks Hitech!  BTW model.res file is 1366kb and dated 3/3/00.
