Aces High Events need more promotion

like a lot more

played torpedo 8 and it was quite an awsome scenario even though numbers were modest.

thing is people in the MA (I'm one of them often) simply are not mindful of scenarios starting or about to start that need players.

it really is quite a show. more people will surely attend and enjoy it if they are made more aware of these events.
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

Agreed!
Perhaps an email list option for BBS registered players, or for anyone wishing to join the list.

I simply forgot about tonights event till it was mostly done  :(

Didn't see any Blue-Text God modes announce, but maybe I missed it.

Can there be a setup where a God announcement cycles through the main arena before an event every X minutes?
An I am interesting in participating.

In Warbirds, the S3 events were spectacular organised efforts, that attracted MANY participants.

I read somewhere that such a thing might be being done to invited squads.

GREAT IDEA  :D

Now I just have to find a squad interested...

Ripsnort hosts a squad information page that might be of help to you.  Ripsnort's Aces High Squad Info PAge  That'll give you some insight into what some of the squads are about in AH.  If you like one that you see, just follow their procedures to contact them, or try to find them in game.  I recently joined the 332nd Flying Mongrels, and it's been probably the most fun I've had in online gaming in a very long time!

Anyways, check out Rip's site and see if you can find a squad that matches your play style and personality.

If you wanna check out the Mongrels, you can go here or here.  Feel free to talk to one of us in the Main as well (we fly for the Knights, as does Ripsnort's group.)

***Email announcements of Check6 & Snapshots events, along with blue-text "God" radio buffer announcements beforehand, would surely improve attendance.***  So, who knows about upcoming events and could send out emails?

Organized events, like the S3s, are my favorite.  I also think they are the key to keeping AcesHigh exciting for many pilots.

What's holding us back from having more scenarios?  Ideas?  People to run the event?  Not enough organized squads?

I'd be glad to help organize and promote big events.  (But am very limited in my computer skills.)

P.S.  Maybe one reason AcesHigh events are not always well attended is that the Main Arena is already such a blast!  A second reason may be that because AcesHigh is a difficult game, newbies are intimidated by the added pressure of having to follow demands put on pilots in scenarios.  Perhaps we need to make them feel more comfortable joining veteran pilots in events.

I agree, the most fun I have in any online simulation is when the scenarios start.

MrPluto - we have CM Corps, believe it or not.   ;)

I've just joined them, but they are the ones who design and then run the events. They, and the associated terrain team, work very hard to create these scenarios - it's sad that only a handful ever turn up.

Click
here. to see details on the upcoming events.

I think the only way people in the MA are going to see the event announcements is if CMs are given the 'blue text' priviledge - or another very bright colour.

But there is already a forum for special events announcements (which Daddog posts to every Thursday I think) and the banners all over the shop. Short of taking out radio and TV ads, there isn't much more we can do.  ;)

Well for starters "God Mode" annoucements are not likely to happen anytime soon. In order for us to be able to do a "God Mode" (blue text) annoucement we'd have to have CM priviledges in the main. HT guards the keys to his golden egg (Main arena) most dilligently and rightly so.

Banners, posts on the AH BB, people popping into main right before an event are all currently being used.

I think the only real workable answer at this point is a more commitment to events on the Squadron level. The new Historical terrains coming out should also help.

<S> btw to the CM terrain team!

So - get him to introduce a way for an event CM to set up a MOTD for the arena along with a one-line "announcement" text. When this announcement text is changed, all arenas broadcast the announcement...

This will provide a future way for them to broadcasts like "Duelling Arena is back up" or "Trainers are now available in the training arena" or "Pyro just had a baby"

I have a feeling a lot of people get really caught up in defending their country's airfields in the MA that they feel they cannot leave the MA to run off to a Special Event for fear their country will lose. I've sorta felt it at times.  However, I do my best to make the events and am looking for plenty more Pacific Theater type stuff.  Good one last night!

I think if more new people would fly in the events during their 2 week trial maybe more of them would stay after their trial is over. IMO the SEA is more relaxed than the MA. You don't have to be a hotshot pilot to be welcomed. All of the flight groups are always happy to have one more flyer   :) Maybe this has to do with the one life rule.
No one calls you dweeb except in jest   :D and there is no intimidating banter on channel 1.
I was ready to quit after my trial, then I joined the Mongrels and flew in some of the events and decided to stick around.

This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. I think the key to getting more people involved is by designing fun events, whether they are historical or not. In an environment like this, word of mouth is probably the best method to increase the events' popularity. The CM team are just regular players like you who donate their time and talents to increase your enjoyment. You can do a lot to help by spreading the gospel when you have a good time, and by making constructive criticism when you don't have a good time.

Thanks for the thread and the suggestions.

Dowding:  CM Corps does a great job.  "Hostile Shores" was an excellent "What-If" scenario, superbly organized and run.  I realize that such scenarios take up a lot of time and effort. What takes up most of the time planning a big event?  How can the CMs jobs be made easier?  Getting personnel in order is my guess, so would more organized squads and better communication between squad leaders, squad members, and CMs help?

Also, kfsone's "Announcement text" seems like a good idea.

Anyway, I'm going to the MA to alert people that "Torpedo 8" is coming up in one hour and that they'd better remeber to download the new terrain.

Cit I agreee completely.  Working the hectic schedule I do makes it difficult to browse most times.  I often don't know about the scenarios, or check 6 events until someone comes into the MA and calls for participants.

Maybe, just a thought, when logging into the MA, a screen could pop up (load) and give the times and dates of scenarios and events?

the more that are informed, the more will come methinks.    :D

MRPLUTO, by far the most time-consuimg aspect of hosting large multi-frame scenarios is the registration organization, and scoring. If the terrain does not already exist, then that takes the most time, obviously. Everything else takes time, too, but those would be the top two time consumers.
