Omaha Nebraska AP- Actor Tommy Chong believes Martha Stewart's punishment
far outweighs the severity of her offenses.
Chong, who recently finished serving a Federal prison sentence for marketing
bongs over the internet, thinks certain high-profile celebrities are victims
of selective prosecution to further the conservative agenda of U.S. Attorney
General John Ashcroft, while more serious criminals more supportive of the
Bush administration go largely unscrutinized.
"All she did was flash a boob at the Super Bowl," Chong insisted. "She
didn't hurt nobody, man. Five years in prison is too much, man."
Reporters then explained to Mr. Chong that Stewart was convicted of lying to
Federal investigators about securities fraud, that her sentence was actually
five months, and that Janet Jackson was the one who exposed a breast on
national television.
After a few moments, Chong replied, "Wait, she only got five months? And I
got nine months for selling a piece of glass? Well that really sucks, man."
For her questionable stock dealings, Stewart, who recently fired 200
employees, was also fined $30,000. On the day of her sentencing, shares of
Stewart's Omnimedia soared, earning her an estimated $93 million.
Chong had a few words of advice, should Stewart end up actually serving any
jail time. "Well she needs to be careful, man. Most of the chicks I met in
prison had noodlees, man!"
"And one more thing, man," Chong concluded. "Does anybody know why I'm in
Omaha?"
