ok now need it, just got a comp couple weeks ago, its got:

intel 2.6ghz cpu
512mbs of ddr sdram
GF 5200fx vid card

i decided i wanted to upgrade the ram first to a gig, took me bought the wrong kinds few times:D  took em back and fineally just took my stick into the local comp store and got another of the exact same kind.

but, when i snap em both into place, my system makes this horrible beeping sound, it wont even start up, screen just stays blank like the systems off and the system itself will beeeeeeeeeeep then stop about 2 secs and do it again.

sorry i know this isnt much info, but anyone got an idea of what im doin wrong or can give me some ideas as to what i can do ?

thanks for the help fellas

thats a ram error beep .  put the ram back in and take the new stick out . if it works then replace the old stick with the new one . if it beeps then the new stick is bad .

Can you take that stick back, get bigger one of the same type?

Instead of 256 get a 512 etc?

Put that in the good slot & see if it works.
