C-47 run from 24 to 17 on the deck
« on: January 16, 2000, 10:17:00 PM »
I was flying tonite for the bishops and took an on the deck 47 run from 24 to 17 and made it all the way to the field (our bombers had taken down the ack and then pulled out to make it look like we lost interest).

Discod shot me down while I was grabbing to the field elevation, and even though the solo mission failed it was a blast riding the terrain all the way in and getting all the way to 17.  If 17 had been a sea-level field than the film I took would have had a happy ending, but it was still a blast.

Along the way I threaded the needle hugging the 12 gridline all the way.  On more than a few occasions I saw rook 109's, 205' and 51's pass overhead...that's right, within icon range, pure luck I wasn't spotted I know, but what a rush (oh and almost augured a couple of times...never, ever hit x when that low...hehe)

I purposely took this seemingly more perilous route so that my grid bar would not attract attention as it would have if I had gone north into the 13 grid series.

Why am I posting on such a boring Goon mission that ended in failure?  Well I happened to film it, not from the start unfortunately , but not much after I took off, so most of the mission is on there.

I guess I'm posting this because there maybe some sick individuals like me (I doubt it, but who knows) who may actually like to see a goon mission hugging the tree tops.  Anyway, I wish I could post it but I don't have a website to post it too.  Does anyway know a way I could still get this film posted somehow.  It's not a bad film of how the new terrain can be used.  Not once did I show as a blip/dot on the Rooks radar.  Discod said the radio chatter on their side was pretty busy trying to find out where I was.

Any help would be appreciated.  It made the usual boring goon run alot of fun.

That wuz a good mission. sn1per was workin overtime busting up the main attack. I know he wuz seriously pissed when I picked the tail off his FW when I was flyin 'scort for the gooney piloted by Odessa. Saw him squirtin the kanonnen in rage as he spun in..

Would sure like to see icons disabled at less than 200'.. would make low level attacks an absolute rush; and more could/would do them. As it is now; a low gooney is meat on the table..

Nice flyin Cobra. A great mission all around, Rooks and Bish both. Salute!

Cobra sorry to hear that run didn't work out.  I had softened it up for you then turned in for the night.  I had been hitting it as long as I could because it prevented the CRooks from having an easy way to hit our dar.

Hangtime as for the raid we pulled on 17 earlier, I think it was great.  Me, Snefens, and Cobra led the attack in B26's (Cobra eventually lost an engine but was still able to bomb, then he dragged cons away for us) shamus and Hangtime were escorting, and Odessa was flying the goon.
Although we didn't capture 17, we did level 17, and divert attention from 24 which was captured while we were on the way to 17.  It was great to see how Hangtime organized the strike, and I think this is the type of organization the bishops need. Also, we must have given the CRooks a laugh because they probably thought we were going for the HQ by 17....which is our dar

I had a similiar run in a C-47 with Bull last night.  He had taken off in a C-47, and I was after him, looking to capture F19 I believe.  Anyway, I tried to catch him, using small gullies in the terrain to avoid losing airspeed and gain some ground on Bull, it was a race all the way to the finish, Bull won, but the fun of terrain hugging is one reminiscent of the old terrain in earlier CK beta days! What a hoot!

I love low alt goonruns... ESPECIALLY with the new terrain. It was like 2 or 3 days ago I was running a goon, I beleive 22 to 21, huggin treetops, trying to stay below 100ft as terrain would allow, when I saw about 3k above me a 26. He slid down behind me and we were both bobbin and weavin. (Him to get fire resolution, me for sheer survival) I had him cought in a sissors and was evading pretty well but I snagged a wingtip on the terrain and noseplanted. Fun as hell tho :-)

That mission was incredible, mainly from the teamwork standpoint

The rooks owned just about the whole map.  Us bishops were so close to just throwing in the towel, then Hangtime and Mark had the idea to go for 17.  It was a great feeling as it seemed many bishops pulled together for the cause.

salute!

Ah yes, I remember that mission. I could hear all the commotion of getting the bombers organized and I heard as Cobra said he lost an engine.

Oh, yea, I was the one who flew that lucky goon to capture 24.

Ever fly the goon through the canyons?  Thats fun.

That goon is pretty strong, I once stalled near a mountainside, and smashed into the ground. Lost both engines, but the plane was still alive.  Had to get another one though :P

Hey, I was there to, plastered 24 in my '26 then flew close scort on Odessa, nothing like half power and flaps for 45 minutes to start the sweat glands. Made it to the run in the went ahead to hopefully draw fire, at that point, the suprise was up and it was only a matter of time, took 3 with me and pinged the heck outa a 51 with my forward guns, weeeeee!  Anyone have a sight for the '26 yet?
