When I look for a bit map in the terrain folder in AH (just like the help files say) all I find are RES files and I am unable to open them.  How do I get a bitmap map to edit in Paint as a foundation to work with, for the Map Window?

you need to go to the AH2TE directory, Terrains, map name, then find it in there.

I redownloaded the editor and still no joy.  I can't find clipboard Bitmaps anywhere on my computer.  I have already deleted AH1 from my computer if that makes any differance.

Xargos, are you talking about the elevation bitmap or the map that comes up on the clipboard when flying? There is a difference.

The elevation bitmap doesn't exist. You need to create that from scratch and import it into the TE.

The clipboard map can be created in the editor using FILE, MAKE MAP and then you can then edit it from there.

In the Help files it says there are four templats marked with 25 mile sector lines provided in the ..HTC/aheditor/terrains/maps directory.  Then it says to make a copy of that Bitmap template and choose a name for the copy.  Next it says to use any Bitmap editor to transfer your water and land areas onto it.  This will end up in the Map Window after some more work.  Am I missing a step somewhere or a file?

The help file is out of date, or those bitmaps were accidently left out.

Either way those bitmaps don't exist on your comp

I've made them available on the AH Terrains web site. Under the "AH1 Original Programs" section.

If you've registered, and logged in it should come up in your browser and you can save it from there.

When I click on the "Original Blank 512 Bitmap" it take me back to the previous menu where the "AH1 original Programs" was.  Oh... and thank you for trying to help.:)

I came here with the same problem, and downlaoded the file (it worked for me) but where are the tiles with which to make the bitmap out of? Doesn't it supply standard-size ground tiles for us to piece together? That's what it sounded like to me!

why are you all so fussy lol

start making a map dont add any tiles or anything yet save it
as any thing u like i will say you saved it as "1"
go to the aces high 2 terain editor folder, there is a folder in there named 1 (or what ever you named your map) In there make a folder named "texsrc"

Now make the terrain shape you want in some paint program
save in your aces high 2 terrain editor folder in side the folder named 1 and in side texsrc
save it as a 256 colour bmp also name it  1.

Now when you open your map in terain editor you can see the map you drew and can add the tiles acordingly.

i beleve this is prety basic and i know dont look Great But it works and dont take long
