Microsoft DirectX 9.0c
"When one considers just what they should say to a new pilot who is logging in Aces High, the mind becomes confused in the complex maze of info it is necessary for the new player to know. All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

"DirectX 9.0 includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using the DirectX 9.0 APIs."

I REALLY wish they'd tell you whats changed, what will work better, and WHY I should bother upgradeing.

But then I still subscribe to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" school.

9.0c contains updates to the shader/pixel model which allows the new SM3.0 architectures to work.

Far Cry is the only game that it might make a difference in (once they get the 1.2 or 1.3 patch out), and only if you have a NVidia FX6800 product.

Microsoft uses that tag line for every DX release since 8.0.  The only modification is the addition of the word 'security'.

The only reason Far Cry might make a difference is it is the first game to attempt to make use of the SM3.0 architecture.  Other games are coming.

It does JetB you Ok. But only nVidia 6800 can take advantage of SM3.0 I believe. ATI is still only SM2.0 even on the new X800 models (why - they didn't know how to implement it, lol)

Does anyone have the FX5700 ULTRA or a 5900 ultra?  I'm wondering what kind of performance differences there are in relation to AH2.  Would I be better off increasing RAM from 512 to 1 gig to obtain higher fps, or upgrading Video card to achieve it.

Right now I have an FX5600ULTRA pulling @ 50 , avg.But seen it drop to low 20s in furball, almost induces eplileptic seizure, lol.
I know the 5700u uses DDR3 memory, 5600u uses std. DDR.

Any feedback to this long-winded post would be helpful. TY,

Lobsta

What CPU you using?
AH2 is heavy on CPU, Vid card and mem usage.

In that case I would suggest -
As you have a rev 2.0 board, XP3000 or 3200 with 400fsb.
That way you'll utilise the fsb to the fullest and will be running in sync with your mem.
I assume your running dual channel memory settings?
Possibly buy 1 x 500mb Corsair (same as your other 250s but a 500mb version) and rearrange your mem sticks to get 1gb dual channel.
e.g. the 2 x 256s in one channel the 1 x 500 in the other. If I remember right it has 3 DIMM slots. 2 are one channel, other is the other channel.

Give that man a cigar!

Ordered a 512 stick while waiting for your response, I'll get a faster cpu, too.  The mb does have 3 DIMM slots, the one in the middle is empty. Had to configure them this way so it would operate the twin sticks in dual mode. Go figure.  Thanks for the reply.

Used to have the same system before I got the Athlon 64.
You just have to put the two 256s on one channel the 512 on the other, and there you have it...dual channel 1gb mem. Can't remeber which slots though :(
