Why the war was wrong!
« on: August 06, 2004, 11:29:27 PM »
It was a devastating day for America, for all Americans, and the free world.  Ruthlessly attacked, with thousands dead where the public had no reason to believe it was anything but safe.  Even the US government was taken aback, no one had anticipate planes being used to attack us like that.  As the smoke still rose from the ruins, and as the dead and dying still lay trapped beneath the destruction, congress gave the President of the United States of America their blessing to go to war and protect our country from any such heinous attacks in the future.  But this is where something went terribly wrong.  Instead of concentrating our forces on those who attacked us, we spent most of our military might on attacking a country that had never attacked the United States, sure they may have attacked countries on their side of the world, but is that any reason to send in American troops?  To be sure their leader was an insane madman who may have someday directly threatened America, and with him removed from power we may have avoided some 'theoretical' or 'hypothetical' attacks down the road, but the fact remains that we have dead American Heroes who fought bravely to defeat a country who never attacked us.  You could say that it wasn't just Americans fighting this war, but lets be honest, the vast vast majority of fighting soldiers, tank commanders and even Fighter Pilots were Americans.  We paid the price in the losses of our young solders, to fight in a war with a country who never attacked us.  This is why I call on the American people to rise up and let the world know that we will not let the President of the United States get away with this sort of abuse of power.  We were wrong in attacking Germany, and President Roosevelt was wrong, and the American people must stand up and be heard.

Ahhh, didn't Germany declare war on us first?

Yeah but we were violating maritime law by escorting combatant ships (british merchantmen) with US warships.  By escorting them in international waters we pretty much made them legitimate targets.

We also violated the Neutrality act repeatedly.  The whole lend lease thing was questionable at best.

Still, Hitler was stupid to declare war on us.  If he had kept his trap shut he probably could have gotten another 6 months before the US got into the war.  In 6 months he might have knocked the British out of North Africa and secured the southern route into the Caucases.  At the minimum it would have limited the amount of aid given to the Soviets.  Who knows what would have happened.

At the end of the war two of the prototype bomb spheres MAY HAVE been found, south of Stuttgart, also found there was the uranium cauldron that I mentioned earlier. The two prototype bombs were supposedly found submerged in water by forces of the French Army, who supposedly destroyed them, along with the lab they were in, by explosives. The fact that they were being stored under water makes it sound like they may well have been ready for testing, and it would be interesting to know if the supposed site is still contaminated.

"who knows?"

Lots of folks. The allied military and scientists as well as the German military and scientists.

Look up the "Farm Hall" tapes and admissions by Heisenberg and other German scientists post war. In 1941 the Germans weren't close to building an a-bomb in six months let alone 6 yrs.

"(Hesisenberg) convinced that German scientists were superior to other scientists, so if Germany couldn't produce a bomb, he believed no other country could succeed.
Heisenberg and the other primary scientists were captured and taken to the Farm Hill house in Britain. They were detained there for six months, and monitored without their knowledge by the British.
When the Americans dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima the scientists were given the news by their captors, then left alone in a room with a secret microphone. These tapes were only recently declassified. On the tapes, it's apparent that Heisenberg and the other scientists were convinced that it was all a trick and they thought the Americans didn't have a real atomic bomb."

IMO the folks who believe the Germans were close aren't read up on the subject or are in denial as the "Luft46"  types and "what if" types that chat on "alt.WWII.what-if"  are.
