Base fades in and out
« on: August 08, 2004, 12:42:23 PM »
Sorry posted this in the wrong section before.

Whenever I come into a base it always fades in and out as I get closer to it.  It never completely disappears all at once just certain parts fade out then back in.  This really makes it difficult to de-ack fields as the guns always disappear on me as I dive on them and I need to follow the tracers to shoot at the guns.  I was wondering if anybody knew of a setting that may correct this or is just my video card.  I have no problems running the game and I get up to 90 FR at times.  I also have most of my settings set for more performance than graphics and I don't know if this is causing it but if anyone could give me some idea's it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!!!

This is what I am using:

 AMD Athlon™ XP processor 2200+

The game is set to write certain terrain effects from certain distances.  Go into the setup and increase the distance it will
begin to draw the terrain.  Sounds like you have it set low.
There is a slider for this.

Thanks for the reply ohio330 but that didn't seem to help. It does not seem to matter the distance I am to the base as it fades in and out as I get closer to the it.  The runway and ack are what seem to disappear every time, but I can usually see the buildings once I get into range. Skuzzy do you have any idea of what I may have set wrong or if it's just my graphic card?

I hear about this enough from 9200 owners that it has me scratching my head.

The 9200 is based on the R200 core from ATI.  The R200 core was first used on the ATI8500 video card.  This is what I have in my system.  But I cannot duplicate this problem.
I am running the Catalyst 4.4 drivers on my box.  I have adjusted the performance level in the ATI Control Panel 3D tab from dead center (Quality) one notch towards performance.
In the custom settings, I have moved the "Texture Preference" to "Performance", and the "Mipmap Detail Level" to "Performance".
In the "Compatibility Settings", I use the defaults.

I run the desktop at 1024x768x32 bit color and I run the game at the same resolution.  On my 800Mhz Pentium 3 w/512MB of ram, I get about 40FPS with drops to 20.
I have the "Preload textures to system ram" enabled in the game.

I do not see any textures vanishing with the above settings.

I've seen this problem too.  I set the building visibility to maximum, 3 miles, and I can't even see the runway until I'm about 2000 ft away, too late to line up a good landing.  I've seen this on my VAIO laptop:

1.7 GHz processor
Windows XP
Intel (onboard) chipset video adaptor

and on my PC:

3 GHz processor
Windows 98SE
ATI Radeon

How do I fix this?

This Laptop does NOT run AH2 on a playable level. I started out playing with it two years ago, version 2.06 or something. That still ran, but with a horrid frame rate.

I tried to get version 2.08 to run a while back, updating all drivers and cleaning out the house for full performance. But even at lowest graphics/Vid settings, id get 15 FPS in tower OFFLINE. Coming closer to one of the offline drones, let alone trying to shoot it would reduce FPS to a slide show (0-2). I was able to log on and chat, but flying was virtually impossible.

Without your dxdiag, we cant really tell - you might be able to gain a little performance by updating drivers.... but I wouldnt hold my breath. Integrated Graphics chips just dont work well for AH - you need a Graphics card.

For Skuzzy: Textures (especially terrain textures) blink in and out as well.
