My normal weight should be 160 to 170 lbs, but I had reached close to 200 lbs. I started the South Beach Diet with my wife 5 weeks ago. I went down from 197 lbs to 181 lbs. I didn't have the sudden drop that was supposed to happen in the first two weeks, but I have averaged over 3 lbs a week even after starting the 2nd phase where you get some good stuff back.
I think it jumpstarted my metabolism that used to just burn up all the calories I could eat. I have even cheated with some Cheesecake a couple of times for no penalties.
All of this with no exercise. When I reach my normal weight I can probably get away with almost unrestricted diet if I just get rollerblading again the way I used to: 16 to 24 miles a day for 3 to 5 days a week
