Been aces high "free" for 10 days. :) I have regained some iniative in my life since im not playing 6 or 7 hours a day. All it took to quit this terrible addiction was the gameplay starting to really stink. It has been bad for awhile, i figured it would even out again  eventually but no dice. Well Im goin out to do some drinkin and throw some spit at the honeys :P  Cyas.

lol Jaxxo!

I feel ya bud.

When AH2 rolled around I dont know what did it, I can't quite place what exactly it was or is, but something changed. Well duh! Sure the game changed but the people and how they play also changed. I dont like change. I'll adjust to it but I'll never like it. AH2 will never be what AH1 was when it came to certain things. I wish I could describe those certain things. Those of you who know what I mean or what I'm talking about I need not explain myself. Those of you who have no clue and think I'm mistaken, it wouldnt matter if I tried to explain things. You still wouldnt get it.

Dont get me wrong I like AH2. Its cool. But I'll never love it the way I did AH1.

I think the term "out with the old and in with the new" in some cases includes the players as well. Altho I dont think it was HT's intention. Im sure it wasn't... Its our stubborn ways that did it.

We'll see... Being summer many have left the game, including me for the most part. When winter rolls around I think (hope) things will start to change a bit more with some old tymers coming back. :)

I much prefer AH2 to AH1. Specifically the Flight model and gunnery. It just 'feels' more real. My films even look like gun camera footage from WW2, they did not in AH1. I'm more hooked now than ever. I'll be playing this game until it ceases to exist like I did with AW.

Reading your post, I think you meant to say you prefer AH2 to AH1. (??)

Jaxxo - I have you beat. It's been 3 weeks for me. My personal beef is with the small maps. Trinity was up, but I blinked and missed it.

Morph is right - it's a seasonal game. I am much less inclined to play during summer weather when I could be down by the coast...

Wise old sage Mr. Jedi said, about 5 years ago on the AGW board shortly after WB had adopted short range gunnery like AH2:
Quote
"OK, well, first of all let me say that I don't much care for the new gunnery, primarily because it has sapped a bit of the fun from the game. Remember, REAL air combat wasn't FUN at all. The closer we get to REAL, the farther we'll get from FUN. But having said that, I wouldn't go back to the old gunnery, because the new model is a better simulation IMO. So there's MY agenda. Don't like it, but know it's a necessary STEP."
Hehe, that was in my WB2.6 quit post. Not only did we have short range gunnery, but if you lived more than 2000 miles from the iEN server, your guns didn't work at all! :lol

If you liked AH1 more than you like AH2, your attraction to AH1 was probably its eminent gaminess. Steve has been honest and admits as much, and gave this as the reason for his account cancellation.

Jedi's message is that the more we move towards REAL, the further we'll move from FUN. He later added that there was a limit to the validity of this equation if applied in reverse, by which he meant that the further we move away from REAL, we might get more FUN initially, but there is a limit to how far we can go away from REAL before we reach the point where we are no longer moving towards FUN.

And IMO, AH1 had gone waaaaaayyyyy past that point (pseudo-helicopters & 800/1000yd vertical spray shots).

For me, AH1 could never be unlimited FUN because it was so far from REAL. How could I take pleasure in blowing someone apart at 1100yds, when all the time I knew that such a scenario would have been unadulterated BS in the real world? I play these games because I'm interested in WW2 re-enactments - not because I enjoy pummelling a fire button and watching stuff go 'BOOM'...

... although there are guys who played AH1 who wanted no more than that. Not saying you were one of them though. ;)

I hear ya Morph.

It's not that I've not adapted to AH2 but I'm just tired of AH at the moment, probably due to some of the changes and liking AH1 a lot.... I'm unsure to be honest.  I agree with everyones comments so far though! :)

I've only flown a handful of times over the last 4 weeks which has allowed me to get some of my private life back, which is good!  Unfortunately when you try and play AH again you're all rusty and then cuss because you've got to get used to it all again and then end up not flying because of it!  Catch 22!  A break does no one any harm though!

No doubt when winter rolls round and I finalise my move to Germany I'll be flying a lot more too.

Enjoy your break Jaxxo! :)

Being relatively new to the game but having still more hours in AH1 than AH2 its clear to me that things have changed. But I don't think its the software per se...its the players, i think the software change merely acted as a catalyst.

Long term players bailed or put it aside for a while during and after the transition.

Those that stayed are bickering over the impact of the software, too demanding/too buggy etc. etc.

The new players are not picking up on the vibe of comaradarie (sp???) that was present when I started. Yeah there was trash talk and some really creepy sickos on channel 200 (nee 1) but I didn't get the sense of antipathy I do now. The friendlies are hiding or just not there anymore.

The more realistic flight and gunnery models I think actually make the game more enjoyable in that I don't get lasered as though i'm playing x-wing or something. And I have to fight to get angles.

My two cents.

(Now flying as Torque - big shoes to fill apparently.)

(EDITED FOR MEANING.)

no prob with the game at all..its the gameplay that stinks. I got tired of offering myself up to 5 or 6 cherrypickers at a time just to have a little fun. The old drag and and bag method wasnt workin either...just too many to deal with. Finally I just started being an arse on ch one  to get someone to go to the da with me. I have no grudges though..will probably be back later this week:) I may go incognito so watch yo back!
