Met Bill Cleary British ww2 pilot at airzoo
« on: August 10, 2004, 11:34:18 PM »
Man I am so Happy that they made my brother late, So we had to go today Tuesday instead of Monday. Bill Cleary British Pilot was our guide for 3 hours today at AirZoo in Kalamazoo MI.. Bill was a hurri  pilot who shot down his first kill at 15 1/2 yearsold. Finished with 4 kills many assist and 2 maybe's. Bill  Is only at Airzoo on tuesday's so I am so lucky we went 1 day late. To spend the morning talking to and enjoy his company was great Honor. The Air zoo has 4 ww2 pilots as tour guides plus some Korean and Vietnam pilots as guides also.  If you get chance to go to the Airzoo Make sure its a Tuesday, Never met a perfect Gentleman like him before, Took time talking to my 6 yearold, And even broke some rules letting david In many cockpits for photo's.  Now the Airzoo does not have large selection of planes, But has I think better hands on  museum.

It includes Top first line( fullmotion )  Flight sims from the USAF and navy, That anyone is allowed to fly no extra cost, And for children many rides in planes ballons no extra cost. Art work is something to see also. Most rides in museum were full motion 3d sims . Space shutte, f18. and f16's.

When we taxied up to Museum Bill Cleary ( Who lives in Lansing Mi but vol and drives to airzoo only on tuesdays) met us as we steped out of the plane, And once in side The learning curve just got better.
After lunch Arnie Johnson A P38 pilot Spent a hour with us.And to hear his stories like they were a debriefing of todatys mission were priceless.

In closing ASK For guided tour if you come to AIRZOO tour guides are either pilots or Crew chiefs or gunners who fought for our country not KIDS like most tour guides. DONOT miss the B17 film in 3d OF the kalamazoo Girls Last flight. actual Films were used in making this film. You are setting on fullmotion Seating so you feel take off , Flak burts and the flak hits. And hear actual Radio messages during raid.

ENOUGH SAID as you see I'm very happy we went well worth the trip. photo's of some things to follow.

Sounds like ya had a good time Rod. Airzoo looks like a great place to go. Getting information from first hand pilos/gunners ect. is just as exciting to me as see'ing real aircraft. :) Glad ya had fun.
