Help needed with Saitek X45
« on: August 10, 2004, 10:54:28 AM »
Picked up a Saitek X45 and cannot get AH to recognize the view keys mapped to the second 8-way hat switch.

If I use the Saitek SST software and calibration routine it see's it and appears to be working fine. When I try mapping it via AH I get nothing. Any ideas???

(fyi hat switch 1 mapped fine)

I used to have an older X36 stick, and the 2nd hat was only really a 4-way hat... maybe that's still the case with the 45.

You still have to map the views in AH.

Because the SST; just like the Cougar software; is a keyboard emulator; you can map a hat switch when pressed (for example) to the "up" position to tell windows that that switch input sends out a keypad 8 key input.

But you still have to tell AH that keypad 8 should mean "look up".

So; first step is to make sure how your keyboard and joystick is mapped in AH; then start playing with SST.

By the way; a simple way to check how SST is working is to try opening up notepad and try to "write" in it with your joystick. If (for example) you've set up a hat switch as a keypad; then you should be able to type numbers with the hat switch.

Crashy,

I use the X-45, but just skipped Saiteks stick setup software. Just pluged it in, let windows find it, and set it up in AH.

When I did use the Saitek software, I kept having to re-load the configuration (and toggle the auto-load function sometimes) to get it to work right.

I just use the default stick setups in most games, but then I only really use it for AH and OFP

I have been using the X45 and SST for a year now. I really love this stick.

One recomendation....Do NOT use the packaged software. Go to Saitek website and download the latest version for your stick. The software that came packaged in the box doesnt even recognize some of the hats. When you set the stick up make sure you select advanced user when installing it.

After you have a profile created for the game it requires a simple right click on the system tray icon and and selection of you profile to get preped to fly with it.

you must have the current XP drivers for it to work with XP. they do not come on the disk

also to get the full usage from the stick (all hats and stuff) you need to use the programming software. when installing the software you are prompted with an option to use advanced mode. TRUST me it is worth it.

over 100 buttons in 3 modes, 3 8 way hats 1 4 way hat, too much to list.
I don't know what to put here yet.

JB73,
Any chance you would like to share the stick profile?
