Many pilots in WW2 died because they have not been able to open their canopy. They burned to death in their cockpits or they just booked the direct entrance into mother earth with their airplane as coffin. Until now no online flightsim is modeling that type of damage. Scoring would not be highly affected but if you are over friendly territory it sometimes would make the difference between an ended streak or not.
IMHO: please model canopy damage!!!

Its pretty funny/annoying in Jane's WW2 Fighters when the canopy won't open, the pilot is quite vocal about it

I wonder if any pilots who were trapped tried drawing thier side-arm and shooting thru the canopy to break it?  If canopy damage is to be modeled please model this also.  I'd also like the opportunity to open the canopy and use the side-arm when I run out of ammo.  Ok.  Maybe only as a dying gesture. :-)  Hey yeah.  Can we have gestures ala quake 3? :-)  jk.

In addition to jammed canopies, I'd like to see other things preventing the pilot from successfully bailing, such as "trapped in cockpit by G-forces," "pilot wounded; unable to bail-out," and my personal favorite from Aces over the Pacific, "you've struck the tail as you bailed out...unconcious, you plumet to your death."  That last one could be aircraft and attitude dependent.

Hit Ctrl-O to open canopy, Ctrl-B to unbuckle, shove stick forward. Wow-eeee! "I can see my house from here!"

Seriously, having to open the canopy and unbuckle would be a nice touch. Bailing wasn't as easy as it is currently. Having randomness in it would probably be annoying though.

Cheers,

Hey good idea there. I would love to have the bailout steps. You have to train yourself not to forget the correct steps in a "stress" situation or you are dead meat. Just hitting <RETURN> is too easy compared to the realism we can see in the FM until now.

And lets not forget the possibility of the chute failing to open due to fire damage.

That little icon with the face and the question mark on every post takes you the the bio info for that person.  It's a different ft.

Yup, diff. ft. I'm the original, do not be fooled by cheap copies!

Now what outrageously cool comment did I unknowingly get in there?
