This is not about a nuke.
With all this talk of new planes, have new weapons been considered? Don't get me wrong, new planes is great, but so would new weapons. And the ones I have in mind, they would have to be perked. This perk system may have to work where you recover the cost of the weapon if you kill something with it. Afterall, weapons don't come back to base like planes do so if you use one, then you had better hit something.
First idea is the BAT missile. Able to carry a 1K warhead, the BAT was a WWII era anti ship radar guided glide bomb. It was used and it sunk many ships. It could travel as far as 20 miles when released at 25, 000 feet at a launching speed of 140-210 mph. While normally carried by bombers, I have seen film of one carried on the center line of the F4U. This link is for the BAT.
BAT Missile A second weapon, not sure if it should be perked or not, was the "Tiny Tim" 11.75" rocket. It was an air launched rocket. 10ft long and as wide as a 500lb bomb which is what it used for a warhead. The idea was to provide a standoff weapon which could deliver a big punch. It could be fired from the F4U, F6F, TBM, and SB2C. The weapon had to fall before firing or damage would be dealt to the aircraft. The rocket came late and was only used in Okinawa.
