Is there not a real deep volcanoe dead center of the map?
Thought it was 10k or more deep.

I've been to the center of the map, and the "volcano" of which you speak is just a hole a few hundred feet deep.  No lava, no ash, no nothing.  I've tried landing in the crater offline but I haven't quite made it, got pretty close with the 38 though

I'd be wary of that crater - the sheep are up to no good down there, I can tell...

In fact the 'cano's spiritual role is quite well known.  Even now after brushes with mortality rapid replane attempts will occasionally fail, and the player -- sans aircraft -- will find her/himself standing in the crater, contemplating the sheep.
And anybody remember those kill streaks from v. .3X?

That shallow cano in center may  be  a  good place for a Vehicle depot with an airfield,,,,for Knights only of course..

Woudl be nice for me to be able to make a sacrifice to break my '3 kills max per flight' barrier.
Course someone would need to stand guard and ensure no sheep wander in.

Westy,

You need to sacrifice a virgin to the volcano gods.  I was gonna say that you are outta luck, but now that Hobo has rejoined the squad.....

Does anyone here remembers WB 1.x with huge volcanos? You could fly and land inside of them - was kinda a nice trick to do in offline. Also, I think small "fire" people live there too

Volcano stats:
The center crater is large enough that a SpitIX is able to fly its circumference and get back out again. Tight fit but enough.
The depth of the crater is 7k to 0k on the bottom.
This is set in the middle of a large volcano type setting. The mountains surrounding are at 20k +/- down to a depth of 7k +/-
This is one fantastic setting for a dueling arena.
Contrary to opinions expressed : The sheep are warm and friendly. Some have been known to carry bayonets concelled in their wool, but they can be distinguished by their black wool. ATTN: Stay away from their likes and you will do fine.

Well it don't look like a 'cano to me!  Need some hot glowing lava, some fire, and lots of smoke and ash!  Hmm we got cloud code, how about a big plume coming out of that baby?

Whoa, wait a second now    ...it's a geologically accurate extinct shield volcano with a caldera.  I fashioned it after one in Maui, Hawaii (name escapes me right now) and it has roughly the same dimensions.

The actual AH beta terrain volcano structure is very large (something like 25 miles in diameter) and rises up from the relatively flat base that makes up the arena.  The bowl shaped structure at the top is called the "caldera", which is formed after the first major eruption.  The caldera  also has cuts in its sides where the lava pored out to form the unnaturally shaped (I admit that    ) lava fields (where the canyons are) that flow to the sea (and serve to seperate countries).

The smaller "volcano like" structure in the middle of the caldera is the main lava vent.  It should go very deep in the Beta terrain (~7000 feet to almost sea level, and very quickly).

- Ogre (beta terrain builder)

P.S. The sheep were already there when I built it...honest
