The computer doesnt matter provided the game runs well.  If your computer is bad enough that the game is choppy you'll probably be at a disadvantage.  Any working mid-range computer is capable of this.

If you can play the game smoothly at 1600x1200 resolution, it doesn't matter.  (Wether running at 1600x1200 offers any advantage over running at 1024x768 can be debated though)

Expensive controllers don't make you more capable.  It's just a matter of personal preference.  The important thing is having a controller you're comfortable using.

the biggest impact is framerates, makes for better gunnery and smoother tracking.

But you use an aimbot.

I'm playing on a laptop currently (my desktop needs fixing) and I'm definitely seeing a decrease in not only settings obviously, but also in more graphic stutters which ends up with an increased number of missed snapshots.

For a very long time I played AH with a 333 MHZ system and did quite well when others were running faster systems. Then I upgraded to a 1.2 AMD and did just as well. I dont think system adv matters much with AH, at least ah1. I think I could turn there resolution down and still do fiarly well with an older system.

The thing that is important for me is the control system. All the buttons etc... have to bet set correctly. It has to be a TM.

That 333 mhz system was the same system I used to play Warbirds. I didnt upgrade to a 1.2 AMD till 2000.

my 333 lasted from '98 til '03 and is still puttering along just fine as a 2nd box.. 128mb ram, and the card i upgraded to play AH with (coming from AW3), an ati something or other bought in '01...  one thing for sure, using an older system sure teaches you how to tweak the hell outta stuff...  i've never overclocked, tho' and never will...

I know a lot of very good people that just use the MS twisty sticks.

Best joystick out there.

Isn't this a bogus question?

You'd probably have a 50/50 split on engagements between the two ostensibly equal pilots.

Why? Simple answer - comparing different control setups assumes that the pilots have the same likes/dislikes in terms of comfort/stick resistance/throttle settings/etc.

Someone who has never used rudder pedals may find that they're anathema to how they fly and a twisty stick is better.

Actually no its a good question. The problem is that the difference is not that black & white.

I've been here since god made dirt ok.

I've had 2 new computers in that time.

The first 6 months rocks. Your fps are high, connect is silky smooth, its much easier to get on someones 6 & stay there till hes dead.

The next 6 months are also good, but there are some who have gotten faster than you.

No computer vs computer advantage, your both fast enough that it comes down to pilot.

1 year later, computers getting older.
Good time to reformat & reload. Cut out all the crap, make sure your booting clean. Half the arena is running slick new machines that are faster than you.

It gets harder & harder to keep up with whats happening in a multi con enviroment.

You find yourself flying cannon armed AC more because you don't need a 2 second burst to kill.

18 months

Computers getting obsolete, your frustrated with how you fly, can't seem to keep up. Start driving ground vehicles, goon, buffs more.

They just are not as dependant on speed.

Your counting down the months till you can afford to upgrade. (and counting the dollars available to do it too)

Wiishing just once you could afford something thats going to be so fast that you'll get 2 good years out of it instead of 1 + or 18 months, or whatever.

The last couple months your down in the slowest 10% of computers in AH.
You spend more time researching motherboards than flying.

You haunt the hardware & software forum 3 x  a day.

Then the day finally comes, LIGHTING in a box, and your king of the world again.

For a bit anyway.

Seriously, it makes a difference, but nothing even close to the skill differences between pilots.
But it is the one thing that money can do to give the good pilot an edge.

So long as you don't start imitating a certain self righteous poster who frequents the boards and seems to think he has to try to use as many fancy or obscure words in each single sentence as he possibly can. While impressing no one with them
