Question about bullet speed
« on: August 13, 2004, 03:23:14 PM »
I'm pretty sure this isn't my imagination anymore.  I feel like it takes noticeably more hits on a enemy to kill him when you're in the tail of a bomber.  Comparing this to the time it takes to kill someone in a vulch or HO.  So simple question, does the speed of the aircraft effect the speed of the bullet and therefore effect the impact on the enemy?  Like in a bomber, are those bullets out of the tail gun going 200mph slower then if fired from a dead stop?  And does this reduce their pounds of damage?

Yes, if you were shooting a still target.

If you're going 200mph and the fighter closing on your 6 is going 300mph that is a 100mph net gain.  However, the bullets also incur less drag as they are going 200mph slower through the air.  As airspeed increases so does drag.
