Switching Planes each ToD...
« on: March 16, 2000, 05:40:00 PM »
Just wondering how many people switch planes throughout the ToD or across ToD.

Here's my list so far:
1. 109G10 - beta days.  Was a great plane but damn hard plane to get multi kills in.  My K/S ratio in it was always low - not enuff ammo and fuel to fly around and make multiple kills.

2. F4u-1D - beta/pay days.  This plane was a hog to fly!  ...Great fuel and ammo load.  Got an 8 kill sortie in it once or twice. This plane took my K/S up to a reasonable level...I'll always remember roping HangTime in this plane once  ...

3. N1K2 - flew it whenever. I really took it to heart just before beta ended.  Great plane!  If I ever wanted to bring up my K/S, I'd fly this plane  ..think I got 8 or 9 kill sorties in this plane...

4. F4U-1C - flew this plane most of last ToD - awesome plane.  Had a 8 or 9 kill sortie in this thing too I think.  K/S was always above 1 in this plane.

5. P38L - Current ToD.  Nice plane but yet to master all it's abilities so my K/S is pretty bad at the moment.  Takes some getting used to coz you can't use the torque to turn the plane around at the top of a reverse.  One thing I did find though is that at very slow speeds at the top <100mph you can apply rudder and the thing pivots around 180deg - not very fast so you have to have a bit of separation but it's pretty neat  .  Compared to the WB P38L though I think this plane is kinda sluggish.

All in all, I think you really have to fly any plane for a long time before you know how to take full advantage of it's strengths...I can understand how some of the guys who fly a single type can do so well.

Hmm, lets see...

Beta tour 1: I joined in the last part of this and didn't get to fly much. Only thing I did get to fly was the 109G10 and I managed to do quite awful in it.

Beta tour 2: I now started trying a few of the other planes, mainly the spit ix and the La-5FN. I did bad in them though, and stayed in the 109G10 trying to learn it well. Managed to get K/D over 1 in it now.

Beta tour 3: Now the rest of the 109's was released, at the end of the tour if I remember correct, and I immidiately started flying the 109G2 over the 109G10. I had about the same succes in this "new" model.

Tour 1: 109G2 was my main plane now, and I only took the 109G10 up when I KNEW I was going on a high alt intercept.

Tour 2: Now I REALLY started experimenting  , I began to fly some in both 109G6 AND 190A8. I still fly 109G2 the most with 109G10 being a little less used.

The Future: Hmmm, Maybe I will start trying the 109F4 out, and maybe, just MAYBE, I will give that italian macchi205/2 a try. Nah, thats too far a step i guess

I just got a thing for german planes.

BTW...At all times have I been regular flying the bombers and transports available. When we get the Ju88 and 52 I will use them the most I'm sure, when buffing.

I've definately switched planes from tour to tour.

In tour 1 all I flew was the p51, b17, and c47.  I was REALLY bad in fighters.  (At the time I thought it was just me, but it ended up being stick spiking problems.)

Tour 2 I flew the p51 for most of the first half of the tour, then spit 9, then I used the f4-1d when it came out.  (This was before Dx7a, so I still had a lot of spiking/bouncing going on.)  The only bright spot was the c47.  I flew this plane a lot in this tour and ended up having the number 1 rank for field captures.

Tour 3:  All problems were solved when Dx7a came out.  I started flying the c205 almost exclusively after I figured out how nice a plane it was.  I also experimented with the la5.

For the real tour 1 I flew the c205, f4u-1c, and also began trying out the 109g6 and g10.  I liked them, but I was too used to being able to dive at 500mph in the c205 and f4u, so I didn't use them much.

This tour I have been using the f4u-1c a lot, and have been doing pretty good in it.  I've also been flying about 1/2 the time in either a 109, 205, or p38 just for a little variety.  (Sometimes you just feel like TnBing with the spits down low, so you grab a 205.   )  To get a halfway decent k/d in the f4u without vulching, you absolutely NEED an alt advantage.  The alternatives are ho or run, and I don't like either.    I'm sure I'll give the Typhoon a try when it is released too.

I guess the moral to my story is that I've flown just about everything that you can fly in this game.  But since my favorite airplane in real life is the f4u, I'll probably fly it most of the time.

(I like this picture.   )

Mmmm let me see...

Betatour1
Most of my time in spits (handle JENG), then second LA5. My K/D was realy poor, but Hollywd walked me through the sticksettings and everything went better. I flew the spit as a true TnB dweeb (get a kill, get killed) and the La5 was my first attempt to something more kinda E-fighting.

Betatour2
First time I got my K/D over 1. Still flew the spitIX alot but the LA5 fell from grace and was replaced by a pony. Tried some BnZing in it, wasn't very good at it but with its speed extention (runrunrun) was easy. In the last part of the tour I began to appreciate the 190 (odd since I hated those german places and couldn't do well in them). First time I ended in top hundred (75) but that had more to do with buffing and fieldcaptures then anything else.

Betatour3
K/D ratio went up once more to 1.78. Most time still in the spitIX (I know, I know I'm a dweeb) but I discovered the 190 in ernest and began liking it alot (K/D in 190 5).

Tour1 The Axis Tour
Discarted the spit, flew mostly 190, N1K and 109G10. I realy began liking these planes. Also learned that the 190 is not realy up to par with the latewar set   (still K/D in 4.4)

Tour2
Not the best tour so far... I've flown about everything this tour. Bit emphasis on 109's (G2-G10), N1K, P38 and spitV. Maybe I should stay with one plane for an entire tour and realy learn the ropes in it. Suggestions?

So I guess I'm also a multi-user... but there is a slight drift from the typical TnB planes to the more Bnz and E-fighting planes (if there are any, cause you can fight every style in every plane to some extent).

I switch planes every sortie, or damn near every sortie, except the P51, its too easy, no challenge  in the P51..(Dons flame proof vest)
