At the moment I have very little in the way of "personal attachment" for this particular game...however I spent the better part of 5 years here. This is the 1st real attempt to grapple with an issue that has existed since I started flying (1993??). It's obviously not "perfect" but it's a big step and a big gamble to take. I know that as the #'s jumped from ~200 or so to ~500+ that the "skill" variable lessened in overall importance.
I'd guess that feedback has been pretty strong for along time prior to this and might have been one of the issues that led to the "Tour of Duty" concept. Remember that AH2 wasn't initially designed to support the current arena or game model but to introduce a totally new concept for massive online multiplayer gameplay (TOD). Since nothing has really been said about TOD (that I know of) it's logical to assume that it still has some real developmental issues and isn't "ready for primetime". Otherwise I think they would of held off on addressing this issue till TOD launched.
I have very little sympathy for either HT or Pyro but honestly appreciate their willingness to step up and take this issue on. Especially after the total messup (my feelings) of the AH2 rollout. However it makes sense, if you've identified it as a major issue, deal with it while your still taking flak over the other stuff and get it out of the way.
As for "get a clue"...well as a business owner I learned real quickly to listen to those little words. This is really the 1st time I feel like HT and Pyro did exactly that:aok
