Threads with NME value over 10 not available
« on: August 15, 2004, 08:31:26 PM »
In its current state, this new system is nothing but a complete frustration to the games loyal customer base.  First lets preface this by addressing one big oversight, there has ALWAYS been a country 'in the bucket', Rooks spent the better part of 2001, 2002, and half of 2003 with a huge numerical disadvantage....we lived.

Let me also state for the record that those who are loyal customers play this game as a social event, not some quakefest in the air.  I am farmiliar with many dozzens of my fellow countryment, and that farmiliarity lends to the overall satisfaction of playing the game.  In the same vien, I get more satisfaction when I shoot down a known enemy ace, or someone from a squad who we have an ongoing rivalry with.   The idea of asking me to 'switch sides' is akin to asking me to root for a different football team....you just cant flick a switch and become someone else when youve been playing the game as long as many of us have.

While I can appreciate HT trying to 'fix' things, there are a few real issues that make this current system a disaster:

You cant make missions with any of the 5-15 point planes, because by the time the mission rolls, they may be unavailable.

Squad opps become excersizes in frustration, as half the squad get in a 51 or a 38 and the other half who are 1 minute later cant get the same plane.

Some squads fly specific planes, and a P38 squad is sure to be pissed when on their squad nigh they cant fly the 38....or like tonight when a B17 squad couldnt up a shrecking B17!!!

What happens when several squad members log in one afternoon and DO switch to another sides as you hope....and then later that afternoon others switch to yet ANOTHER side all in an attempt to fly a P-51 or even P-38 or B17......then that night the squad cant fly together, cause they are commited to a diferent country for 5 more hours?

Disabling perk planes is just plain wierd....I mean....if the 262 cost more than 225 points....it doesnt matter cause ya cant have one.

I just cant see the benifit...cause it isnt causing folks to move...its causing them to get upset.

I find it rather annoying when a person replies to a thread with a link to another but:
I opened a thread addressing that point already

I posted this elsewhere, but it applies here as well.  You may want to consider a change of perspective: instead of "three countries", think "one community". You are not changing sides at all, you are simply making the game better by evening the teams. If you and your buddies at work did a friendly pick-up basketball game, and two guys had to leave the other team, you'd fill in their place so the game could continue. Right? This is no different.

When the quarterback of a football team goes down...I dont see the other teams QB rushing to put on a new jersey.  Doesnt matter if its one big league, a team isnt a team if you change sides to help out the other side....that stuff is for the practice squads:D

And as for those who say its to get 'those few' without loyalty to switch, thats just great....my ability to have a stable playing enviroment is going to be subject to those with the least stake in the overall community?   Besides, it isnt working....rooks have an advantage on Sunday nights based on multiple squad opps....nothing changed tonight except that as the choke chain was tightened, more and more talked about canceling their accounts.  How many were really that upset?  who knows, but I do know that if I love to fly plane XXX, and I only get to play an extremely limited period, and when I log in Im denied flying my ride of choice...its a BAD THING.

HT has commented that a rolling plane set wouldnt work because people wouldnt get the planes they liked 100% of the time.....I can only wonder how denying a plane to SOME players is better.  The whole thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth....and I fly the F6F more than anything else when its my choice...and that has an NME value of 20 so its pretty safe bet its going to be there....but as my squad tried despratly to fly together tonight, we had multiple occasions when some of us couldnt get the plane that others had taken off in 1 minute earlier.  Was the worst squad night in 2 years.

That's because it isn't a freeform game like the MA is, a game where you can choose whichever side you want regardless of numbers.  If one NFL team didn't have enough players to support a full complement on the field, the game ends.

So, in our informal pick-up MA game, numbers aren't even between teams, and neither are plane types available to players.  Nothing wrong with any of this.

Think of it as a pick-up game.  Learn to make friendships and cooperate with people other than folks you have known for 5 years.  It'll be easier for you to adjust. ;)

then again do you see one team having 16 players on the field and the other only 10?

the only sporting analogy i can think of that could "justify" the anti-eny limiter whines would be hockey and the penalty box.

most, if not all, other sports and to an extent, games, try and at least start out things evenly all around, leaving it up to "teamwork" or "skill" and often "luck."   even games based with uneven starting points, allow the underdog at least a chance if it's played right.

as someone mentioned, using a pickup basketball game, a "recreational" game, if you will, if 8 guys were playing and 2  on one side had to leave, would the game continue with 4 v 2 or would someone swicth and make it 3 v 3?

but who cares about hockey, anyway?

:D
