Any interest....
« on: August 17, 2004, 01:02:13 PM »
Is there anybody interested in forming a Japanese Squadron for the CT (or for Squad Ops for that matter)? I know the 27th Sentai was once around but apparently they are long gone...

I really like flying the Japanese planes and love the PTO setups (I know I am a rarity).

I have the bright idea of creating a squad (244th Sentai) to help even out numbers (especially for Thursday night missions). I have plenty of webspace available to setup a site (and can host a forum or mailing list if neccesary) and have started work on a simple website already.

So, anyone interested....?

I salute your enthusiasm and I hope you do well. Unfortunately, I think most of your potential candidates for a Japanese squad are in JG54 already.

Thanks Grits, I was afraid of that too.

Well, time will tell.

I might consider it.  I haven't done the sqwad thing since the 13th Sentai petered out.  Maybe we'll get a chance to wing-up this week and try it out.

I don't know that creating a squad, in and of itself, will help equalize numbers, though.  There are various reasons people just don't fly IJN in the CT; the main one being, I think, that the planes are just outclassed.  Having an established squad won't change that.  It might serve as a vehicle for recruitment from the 'other' arena, though.

Personally, I only fly the CT; I always fly IJN when there's a PTO setup; and I always fly the zeke when it's available -- A6M2, preferably.  Maybe I'm just warped.

I agree, but I am hoping with the arrival of the ki-84 (just 2 weeks away, right :D ) we might see some influx of Japanese flyers (whether we see many setups with ki-84s in the CT is another problem all together.)

I fly in both MA and CT regularly so I can try to recruit some MA types (at least for Thursday night missions if nothing else). Also it will give me a chance to form a squad for Friday Night squad ops instead of begging rides from other squads (which I currently do). :)

Maybe we can wing some this week.

Dont let me discourage you, try it anyway!  Heck, small squads are OK, mine only has 3 guys. I recommend Splash1 also, he'd be a great guy to start with if he is interested.

I was in the 27th and then 13th Sentais.

Being constantly outnumbered, trying to find people to join the squad and suffering an enemy that claims the Japanese have the easy aircraft and it is the USN that is hard to succeed in, well, it got old.

The Ki-84 is going to be my main ride for some time after it is released though.

I was in the 13th sentai as well.  I would urge you to go ahead with your idea and when we have Pac setups I would be proud to fly with you while still being in JG54.  While I can't speak for all of JG54 I'm sure that many will collaborate with you as well.  We need more Axis participation in the CT.  Then perhaps the regulars who like Blue Planes and HM camo planes can fly their rides every now and then.  I play every day whether I need to or not and sometimes I'm even in a good mood.  But Karnak is right about the uphill struggle.

What part of Carrollton you in keyapaha? I  live in Douglasville.

I hope to see some of you up in the next couple of days.

I realize this is going to be an uphill struggle, but that is why I like flying as the underdogs. :D

Storch perhaps our squads (if mine ever gets off the ground) can form the "Axis of Evil" joint squad for the CT?

I'm a nobody in JG54 but my mouth does overload my arse quite a bit.  That question would be best directed at Bear76.  He's the acting Kommandant JG54.

I might be interested in it.  I would have to take a look at how it goes initially.

A recomendation I have would be along the lines of having the squad night on a different night than the Allied squad night.  Let them have their night, fly against them, but in a relaxed fashion.  Have the Sentai's squad night on a night when we might have the numbers to actually accomplish something.  When the 27th/13th put our squad night on the same night as the Allied squads it freed them to feel like there was oposition so they didn't have to balance.  Each squad night was an exercise in pure defense against overwhelming odds.  That sort of thing bleeds the fun out of it real quick and squad night stops being something fun to do after work and becomes just another chore.

I would also recommend that when no Japanese aircraft are available in the CT that there be no obligation to fly Axis.

One thing the 13th Sentai did that I liked was also formed in the MA so that we could fly Japanese aircraft on squad nights when the CT did not have a Pac or CBI setup.  I don't know what MA squad commitments you have.  I have none.

I am moving soon and will be without an internet connection for a time.  Hopefully not too long as I really want that Ki-84.
