Imagine this:
Three tanks roll up to the enemy airfield, followed by 1 flakpanzer and two jeeps. An enemy Spitfire immediately attempts to take off the airfield, but is shredded by the flakpanzer. A B-17 takes to the runway, but it too is quickly dispatched by round from the main cannon of one of the tanks. Meanwhile, the two jeeps have rolled up to the field's HQ and unembarked soldiers who secure the compound. The field is taken.
When we get ground vehicles, there won't be as many paradrops either, because a flakpanzer would have them for lunch before they even reached the ground.
Addendum: In fact, with these three ground vehicle types, taking a field by air support will become secondary, since as soon as enemy bombers start taking out airfield facilities, a quick deployment of 3-4 flakpanzers will secure it from paradrop. Thus, the way to take an airfield that offers the highest rate of success will be by ground vehicles.
Because of this, the immediate focus of air combat in AH will switch from its more strategic nature (high alt bomb raids) to tactical, where the destruction of inbound enemy ground vehicles will be the key.
Airfields will still be severely damaged by bomber attack, as will the strategic resources of a country, but the actually acquisition of territory will left to ground vehicles, supported by tactical air.
My two balls of lint, anyway.
