Cheating - Hacked Planes
« on: January 20, 2000, 08:21:00 AM »
Tonight was the most blatant assault of hacked-cheater planes have ever seen.  Took down names - got movie footage - but what the hecks the point.  Theres so many of you that one can only conclude that you all like it this way.  I bet you guys cheat you Aunt in Gin Rummy.  Well my posts about desiring a WWII sim rather than a General Electric Turbo Fan sim has been ignored, but I leave with this impotent threat - when we go pay, and I will still be here - I will squeak like crazy to AH to ban you guys one by one until you stop.  Go cheat on something important like school or your taxes - whats the point in cheating on a simulation when suprise! - cheating destroys the sim.  Perplexed again by the pointlessness of misdirected human agression.
I never read replys to my posts because reading them finds myself wishing the aliens would hurry up and get here, and advance the human race via 2001 again, so keep in mind your target audience for your flames are your cohorts in Throttle Cheats, not me. - - - You Miserable Wooses!

The attitude of this message gives me the opportunity to remind of a command that might be cosidered helpful for those that don't know it yet:

.squelch <playerid> - hides all messages from a player for the current game session.

e.g. .squelch azrael to ignore my hints about the game info section on the web site

.unsquelch <playerid> - listen to that player again

.unsquelch all - clears the squelch list

HTC can create a checksum for the plane stats and if you Crack it the file would change.. then the file and checksum wouldn't match and therfore when you try to log on, guess what you cant get in.

Problem solved...

I must be thick, I have been playing for months and have never seen a situation where the enemy plane wasnt the same as the one I could use..I think it would stand out.
You know that planes go faster down hill then up hill right?

I'm with you on this one Manock. I've detected some "off-world" influence in this sim myself. I say forget about 'em. They just don't appreciate how difficult it is to fly in a straight jacket. I chipped a tooth on my joystick last night. Maybe I'll try using some other orifice instead. How do you do it?

By all means, post the films. Though frightening as hell, I would like to see the world through your eyes for a few minutes...

You imply that everyone (or virtually everyone) around you is cheating. Why is it no one else seems to notice this?

Sanity is a subjective concept. Your world is what you perceive it to be. This begs the question; If you're crazy, would you know it? Based on the vitriolic nonsense you've spouted every time you've posted, I question your sanity, Manock.

You may not be reading these responses (bet you are!  ) but it sure makes me feel better to know that my vision of reality seems to agree with those around me... or am I only imagining that in my particular reality...

It should be real easy for you who accuse people of cheating to get the cheaters banned for life. . . Use the freaking guncam and post the movies here or send them to HTC. . .

Well, this "cheater" that this Manock character is referring to is "GBLUE" and also me. I didn't see anything wrong with GBLUE's flying(I was a knight and he was a rook or a bishop?). I shot him down, he shot me down. After an extensive dogfight between myself and GBLUE, I can say with absolutely no doubt in my mind, he is in no way cheating, hacking or otherwise defying HTC's laws of physics. Manock here is just one of those people that thinks the world is out ot get them, despite the fact many of us may have more stick time than him(myself, 6 years of CK/WB/this/other sims). Funny thing is, he stayed 2K or more away from my plane, yet he accused me of hacking. He stated "Your plane seems pretty super Wolfe" He even got my name wrong. I suppose it's because I got more kills than him in a single sortie and kept shooting planes down. Oh yeah, and here's the hilarious part... HE WAS ON MY SIDE! If you agree with this guy about everyone cheating, you should get a reality check, this person is seriously deluted and needs help immediately. Perhaps a prescription of "Never fly AH again" will work.. atleast it will make me feel better. :-)
Anyway, have a nice day.

blur, you might consider that we aren't playing in a ideal environment here.

A good article covering netlag and the results is hoofs 'net lag and warbirds' at  http://www.rdrop.com/users/hoofj/netlag.htm

Although some of the problems described there aren't as apparent anymore (better smoothing code, another sim), some are still there and won't go away.

Another thing to consider in AH is that the sim has two ranges where a warp could occur, the first when a ac enters icon range, the second at closer distance but out of shooting distance, the reason is that far away planes aren't updated that regulary on your FE. A HTC member could explain the reasons better I think.

In WB and DoA I have seen hacked planes..
But AH.. never..
Only things that might feel like hack, have been bugs in FMs or such..
Also heard alot complaining of planes not dying because wings gone.. well, often that has been so that victim has had only wingtip or two lost

I have also seen those unbelievable ditches of stabless planes... I have made twice that in B-17.. uhh..
(and more than that without vert stab..)
So.. current FM is what it is, it doesnt mean its hacked game.

...Wabbit carefully steps over the puddles of frothy spittle left behind by Manock.

Yo:
>HTC can create a checksum for the plane
>stats and if you Crack it the file
Not that simple.  That only protects the file on disk.  There are "in-memory" editors that hackers use so just protecting the file is insufficient.  There needs to be a  physics deamon process on the server that is constantly checking the player last state update with the current one.  By comparing the delta between the two states and the control and power settings it can be determined if it falls within the physics model.  If it does the old state update is tossed, the current one save to be compare to the next one.  If it doesn't you send a packet telling their frontend to shut with a msg "You executable or data files appear to be corrupt.  Please contact HTC..."

But then you have the shot doublers.  These are programs that once the packet that designates hits on a enemy (assume local hit calculation)  is decyphered those packets are duplicated so not one hit is sent but 10 or 50.

Then you have the blackers.  They figure out which packets are incoming damage or kill packets and they filter those out so their client never receives them.

THere are measures that can be takes against all these tactics, and counter measures.

In the end, the only way to solve this problem is the formation of a small, covert para-military unit to track down and uhhh  (the sound of a clacking bolt) terminate their account with "extreme prejudice".
