I started this on another thread, but thought it was good enough to open up on its own.
Ground vehicles. If they can be used to capture fields, ground vehicles will open a whole new era in online WWII flight sims.
Think about it. So far, we know HTC are planning on bringing in a jeep, tank and an AA-vehicle. The AA-vehicle will not only be used against aircraft, but more easily, against paratroopers. Thus, the paradrop will become a very risky venture for field capture.
A jeep will carry the troops needed to capture an enemy HQ. But the defensive ack would murder them, as would they the AA-vehicle.
Hence, the need for a tank. Only a tank could withstand 20/37/40mm ack, while the main cannon would make short work of the defensive emplacements.
These three vehicles used as a team could independently take a field without air support even, given everything being equal. In fact, they would become the prime method for field capture. And this would make them the prime targets.
It probably will be safe to suppose that icons for vehicles will be very restricted, requiring that one be within, say, 1000m. Thus, it might be a good idea to have opposing ground vehicles, mainly tanks, ready to engage them, as well as spot them for aircraft. Any aircraft wishing to engage enemy ground vehicles will have to come down to the deck at some point, which sends any defending aircraft down as well. Thus, air combat at low altitude will become a common occurance with ground vehicles.
That's not to say that high altitude, strategic bombing will become obsolete, not at all. Strategic bombing will remain the crippler of an enemy country, but low-medium level tactical air will suddenly become equally as important to support, or prevent the capture of airfields.
