Drazen never reached his full potential.  Spent most of his prime in Europe and was still improving his PPG in the US.  I think it was at 22 ppg when he died.

+ he was shooting an insane 50% or somthing like from 3 pt. land.

Drazen could have been schooled by at least 10 players I can think of off the top of my head.

1. Wilt
2. Bill Russel
3. Bird
4. Connie Hawkins
5. Dr. J
6. Oscar Robertson
7. Walt Frazier
8. Earl Monroe
9. Jerry West
10. Elgin Baylor

I'm sure there are more.

"Actually if you assume that the reason we're losing basketball games is because we have underperforming black atheletes on our team then that's what makes you a racist. "

Ok, then what do YOU call it?  They're clearly undeperforming compared to what previous teams have accomplished.  My point is if the underperfoming people happen to be black, the "race apologists" jump all over the issue and label everyone a racist--a point which you illustrate very well.

"Well, that makes you a liar too then, JAB, cause we've covered this in an earlier thread. "

I either didn't read that thread, or simply don't remember it.  I don't cross-reference every post ever made on the BBS.   Please post a link to this thread so I can see it for myself to refresh my memory.

"And if you can look at the title of this thread-"Bunch of bling-bling gangsta pansies..." - and not see that it is directed at the racial makeup of our basketball team then that makes you stupid, too."

Really?   Wow I'm stupid, the guy named "Airhead" told me so! (Insert mocking laughter here.)

Actually...there are a LOT of white and hispanics I know who fit that term perfectly .  Hence why I don't consider it a racial term, but rather a cultural term.  If YOU think of it as solely a term describing blacks...then YOU my friend are the one who has issues with stereotypes, not I.

How the !#$%!%#$ would Wilt or any of the big men have guarded Drazen at 20 feet?  He would have gone around them every time if they came out, or he would have buried jumper after jumper after jumper if they stayed in the paint.

PS anybody remember the coin-op "NBA Jam"?
At one point I was playing my college flatmate and he had the Celtics and I had the Nets.  I swear to God the game said, "Lewis... HE'S UNCONSCIOUS!!!" and then "Petrovic... HE'S ON FIRE!!!".  We were like "WTF???"

And how would Drazen have stopped them inside. Wilt or Russell were both quick enough to guard him anywhere.

More evil white racists bash the US 2004 team for being uninispired and bling-bling oriented...

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/chris_ballard/08/24/gymnastics/index.html

"Does losing matter to Dream Team?
Having already devoted the better part of two blogs to the U.S. men's basketball team, I will not add anymore to the landfills of newsprint (or in this case, gigabytes of web text) already accorded to the squad's struggles (way to lay down the hammer on Angola yesterday guys!). I would, however, like to relate a scene (a parable of sorts) I witnessed some years ago -- let's say, in 1997 -- at a rec center in an unnamed Southern city (let's call it "Jackson, Mississippi"). It was late summer and the regular crew of streetballers had gathered for afternoon pickup games. Most had parked their cars where most people do, that being in the parking lot, between the helpful white lines. One gleaming SUV, however, had been driven right up onto the curb in front of the door to the gym. To get in, you had to walk around the car. Its owner was inside, playing ball. An NBA point guard who shall remain nameless -- for the sake of this story, we'll refer to him as "Lindsey." He was in the prime of his career, having averaged 14.2 points for an Eastern Conference team that season.

Anyway, Lindsey was in the process of getting schooled by a local nobody. The guy picked his pocket a few times, abused him on the other end and wasn't shy about telling him just what he thought of his game (hint: it wasn't complimentary). At the time, I was young and impressionable and, frankly, very surprised. How could an NBA player get embarrassed so thoroughly by some random dude?

These days, hardened as I am by four years covering the league, I understand completely. Not only did the never-made-it naturally want it a lot more than our NBA hero but both players understood that, regardless of the outcome, it didn't change what really mattered in their world: One of them had a big shiny SUV and a multimillion dollar contract and the other didn't.

Which is same attitude the U.S. team, or at least some of them (I can't imagine this is how Tim Duncan feels), brought to the Olympics: Those dudes from (insert international team name here) might want it more but they still haven't made it in the league or gotten paid like we have. So even if we lose, we still win.

This, needless to say, sums up a lot of what is wrong with pro basketball in the U.S. right now."

Intrestingly he too singles out Tim Duncan as an exception...

At least these guys accepted!

The players I have the most disdain for are the ones that turned down the opportunity to represent the USA because they were too afraid to go to Greece due to safety reasons.  Those are the true scumbags!!!!!!  I salute the guys that had the balls to go!

We have troops dieing every day and these POS losers can't go represent us by playing basketball.

F the NBA!!!

This is getting ugly.  Just heard a report on Sports radio about how the Basketball struggles are opening old racial wounds.  White people openly routing for other countries.  How dare they DO THAT !!!

How can you blame the NBA players for not playing for the Olympic team.  Have you ever been to Greece?  I have.  Lets just say they got issues.

Screw The Industrial White Man.  I'm going to renounce my citizenship !!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you have your facts all mixed up there MT.  Comparing Duncan to the "bling-bling thug-life gangsta" player is wrong.  He does not represent that style at all.  Of course he was raised in the Virgin Islands I believe.....maybe that has something to do with it?
