A bit about gunners
« on: October 27, 1999, 12:16:00 AM »
Had a chance earlier today to try out the new gunners.  So far they are great.  I really like the emmersive feel of the different positions.  I like the fact that you can join in-flight and can shoot each gun by itself or all guns within the firing angle.  I managed two kills in one flight before being destroyed which leads me to a question.

Is it possible to be killed as a pilot while manning your own guns?  It seemed to me that while my plane took some damage I found myself in the tower all of the sudden as if I had been PKed.  Perhaps I had really just taken enough damage to be destroyed but it seemed like I was PKed.  The attack was from my six and I was in the tail.  A normal PK should all but be impossible from that position anyway.  But I don't think that as a gunner you should be vulnerable to fire.  The position itself should be disabled but you should still be able to fly on and move to other available positions, unless of course you are killed in the pilot seat.  I think this is a must as there is already no otto, and you can only attach one gunner.  If I knew as a fighter that all I had to do to destroy a b-17 was to go for the PK by shooting out the gun that's firing at me, it wouldn't be as much of a challenge.

This is all premature and I would just like to know if it is even possible to be killed as a gunner or if what I experienced was a coincidence.

One last note.  I never noticed any host kill message for planes that I killed while as a gunner.  Is that something on the list of things to do?

I'm not all piss and vinegar.  You guys are doing a great job.  Like the added terrain textures.  Can't wait to see some more of the strat model.  Keep it coming!
